My 2nd grade students come from low-income families and many are learning English for the first time. 85% of my students are English Language Learners which means they speak another language at home. Coming to school and learning to read and write in English in a safe school is of the utmost importance. When they walk out of my class in June, I will have taught them to read with the help of a class filled with books and understand the math concepts that second graders should know.
