Virtual Home Classroom
Funded Jul 25, 2020These items made my home classroom more like my school classroom. I needed a comfortable set up so I could teach my students math every single day. I chose items based on what I figured out were problems during distance learning in the Spring.
The laptop stand is my favorite because it places my laptop at the perfect and angle so I am looking straight ahead and I can still type. The floor mat helps my chair glide across the carpet so I can move easily. The cookbook stand keeps my notes at eye level, so I look up rather than looking down. All of the items have made my days much more comfortable and enjoyable.
I am so grateful for your donation. Thanks again for supporting me.”

What the Heck, I Need Tech!
Funded Jul 14, 2020This new laptop was so important for me to be able to continue to teach my students from home. I needed it to be able to run Zoom (a video conferencing application), Schoology ( LAUSD's learning management system, Aleks (a web-based math program) and to create and plan lessons. My old laptop wasn't able to meet the demands I was going to have to put on it. Luckily, I am still able to use it as a second screen so I can see all of my students while I share my screen.
My students are really enjoying the lessons I am teaching them. They can hear me clearly and see what I am sharing. This laptop has everything I need and it has exceed my expectations.
I am so grateful that you donated to my project and made the 2020 school year easier for me and for my students.”

Let Them be Heard!
Funded Aug 8, 2019I use the Qball about once a week and we are having fun with it. I want to use it more often, but it does take a little more time than it normally would to answer questions. Once the students get used to it, I will use it a few times a week. I use it when the students share more than just a single word answer. It is definitely fun to use and I can hear them a lot better when they use it. They enjoy passing it to the next person and being the "star" with the microphone.
They were so excited when they first saw it. It took us a few times to figure out how to use it and how to throw it and speak into it. Now they are pros at it.
Thank you so much for your contribution to my classroom. This has been such a great addition to my bag of tricks.”

Graph It! Graph It Good!
Funded Jan 18, 2016Thank you so much for helping us get these amazing calculators. They are a tremendous help in allowing the students to see things that they can't see when they use an older version of a graphing calculator or graph things by hand. It gives them so much more flexibility in what they can see and how much they can learn.
The most exciting aspect of this calculator is that it graphs in color and our old calculators didn't graph in color. Graphing in color is very important because you can easily see which graph comes from which equation by the color, making it easier to analyze.
All of my students love these calculators because they allow them to do so much that they weren't able to do before. The possibilities are endless and we are just beginning to scratch the surface of what we can do with them. Often, the students figure something out and show me how to do something on the calculator that I have never done before. It is a great learning tool that has exceeded my expectations. Thanks again for helping us.”

Materials for Amazing Mathematicians
Funded Jan 21, 2012Thank you so much for donating the whiteboard markers and erasers to our classroom. My students use them all the time. They love being able do their work on the whiteboards, which they couldn't do earlier in the year because they didn't have markers that worked.
It is so great to see how much they love using them. With the whiteboards, I see students "play teacher" more often and help other students than they do with paper and pencil. I also use them as a quick check for understanding since they can hold up their boards and I can see their answers easily.
We also have been using our new protractors regularly when we are graphing and the students are very appreciative that they are new and not broken.
Thank you again so much for your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Goldstein
