  • Comfortable Seating Needed for Small Group Instruction

    Funded Oct 12, 2023

Having a classroom rug has significantly impacted my students. The classroom rug has provided my students with a warm, comfortable and inviting area where they can sit during whole group instruction and small groups rotation. The rug has created the perfect place where students do their reading, phonics activities, and hands on during math time. Also, this is our first year doing the Dual Language Program(Spanish/English) and receiving materials like flash cards to teach students Spanish verbs and everyday words has helped in motivating the students in learning new vocabulary words and using those words in sentences.”

  • Calming Area

    Funded Mar 13, 2023

Having a special place in the classroom where students can go when they are feeling frustrated allows them to cope with their emotions. I have set up a corner with beanbag seats, books, a dry-erase and magnetic easel, dot markers with jumbo crayons, and calm down techniques posted all around the area.

The students have gotten better in identifying their feelings and how to cope with them. They are welcome to go and do their breathing techniques or just to read a book to calm down. They enjoy spelling words on the magnetic easel. Also, they enjoy painting and coloring with water coloring dot markers and jumbo crayons.”

  • Financial Literacy in First Grade

    Funded Apr 25, 2014

Your donation made a big different in two different areas of study, mathematics and social studies. My students needed a fun story like "Money Money Honey Bunny" to connect financial literacy to real life situations like spending and saving money. Now, we have seven more books that they can read in a small group setting. Also, my students had so much fun cutting, pasting, drawing, stamping coins, writing, and coloring pictures as part of our interactive math/social studies projects. These different activities gave my students more experience in understanding the concept of financial literacy, number sense, and addition.”

  • Let's Celebrate Multiculturalism and Diversity

    Funded Apr 12, 2013

Thank you so much for helping my first graders. Your contributions have added a culture of joy, excitement, and gave us a variety of captivating multicultural books to my classroom. We ended the school year with a blast and enthusiasm. We read big books about other cultures and our own. We learned dances from Mexico, Central America, and The United States. They learned how to play the guiro, used the crayons and the crafts sticks to make art as a way to express themselves, and read books to reinforce character building skills. Thank you for supporting our multicultural curriculum.”

  • Financial Literacy In First Grade

    Funded Jan 23, 2013

Thank you so much for putting a big smile on my students. They were immediately engaged into our math unit about money and financial literacy. Your donation made it possible for my students to have visual aides and hands-on interactions that will make financial literacy meaningful and comprehensible. My students had different opportunities to learn to identify coin names, values, and compare coin combinations. They had a math center available to play "store" with the cookies counting game. Also, they used the jumbo sized magnetic money and the money cubes to practice their math skills.”

  • Let's Have Fun with Reading

    Funded Oct 27, 2012

Thank you so much for the great books that you donated to my students. Having more Dr. Seuss classics available have impacted my students both in reading and writing. My students have shown a great interest in Dr. Seuss books. This has given me so many opportunities to enhance their learning of grade level skills. These books have increased their love of reading. Most of my first grade students are reading "The Cat in the Hat" and "Green Eggs and Ham" independently. Dr. Seuss books have helped in the acquisition of literacy skills and to create lifelong learners.”

  • Independent Writers and Readers in the Making

    Funded Oct 11, 2012

I want to thank you for your generous donation that made it possible for my first graders to get both grade level reading and writing resources. You have made it possible for my students to improve both in their literacy skills and penmanship.

My students have improved in reading fluency and confidence. During small group time, they have an opportunity to review and practice rhyming words, beginning/middle/ending sounds, word families, and write complete sentences using 1st grade ruled newsprint paper.”

  • Wanted: Interactive Technology For Young Learners

    Funded Feb 2, 2012

Thank you for making a difference in my students. My first grade students love our new laptop. The laptop has given my students the opportunity to access the wonderful technology in different areas of the curriculum. Technology is making learning more meaningful and fun. The students are highly motivated because lessons and concepts are presented in an engaging and exciting way. Math lessons have come alive and visual animations in our reading program are complementing their learning experiences.”

  • Let's Celebrate Reading!

    Funded Jan 26, 2012

Thank you very much for the Dr. Seuss Classics Library and the read aloud CD. The students love to read those books. When they finish their writing assignments, they enjoy doing extra reading and most of time they get a Dr Seuss book. Now we have enough Dr. Seuss books that each student can have at least one.

We are immensely thankful for all the great resources that you have given to our class. We use them very frequently. The students are extra careful when they use our special jumbo crayons. They get very excited when we color with them. The magnetic sight-word board is used as a center for those students that need extra help with sentence structure. Those students are more motivated to write on their own and to follow the pattern sentences.”
