Funded Jan 26, 2012I am so excited and grateful that you have sponsored my project and bought a class set of the wonderful novel Esperanza Rising. I look forward to receiving the books and sharing them with my class.
This book chronicles a year of a young girl, Esperanza, who has moved from Mexico to California with her mom during the Great Depression. During that year they work as migrant workers and move every month to harvest a different crop.
I chose this book because it correlates well with our fourth grade social studies of California history and also because with many of my students having moved from Mexico or with relatives in Mexico, I thought it would have a high relatable factor.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Kingston
