My students live in a low socio-economic area of Los Angeles. They come from diverse backgrounds and family lifestyles. The school is considered a High Performing school based on Statewide test scores. This has been achieved through the hard work of the students. My students are visual learners with fairly short attention spans. They love to share their stories (fiction and non-fiction) with their classmates. For many students, writing narrative stories about their lives helps build self-esteem and a sense of pride.
