  • INK-credible Opportunities

    Funded Apr 12, 2024

Thank you so much for the support you provided to our class! Accessing color ink is no longer an issue with the replacement toner at our fingertips. The Apple Pens have been great as students are able to make art directly on the device. It saves time and allows student creativity to flow. Students are able to simply drag a color to fill in a space. No more hand cramps from crayons! It allows students to stay current with technology. Many of my students do not have access to luxuries of apple pens at home. At school they can practice and play, learn and investigate. It has been so wonderful to see the creations that have been transferred from mind to art!”

  • Calm in the Courtyard

    Funded Aug 12, 2024

My students have LOVED the seating that is available to them! While the chairs stay outside in the courtyard, we often bring them inside to protect from bad weather. The chairs are all easy to transport, available for all of my students needs.

Sitting in hammock chairs in the fresh air offered by the courtyard provides a great opportunity to relax and reset. Students (and sometimes teachers!) can be seen swaying in the bright afternoon sun.

Providing this resource has helped teens reset in a safe and calm manner, and for that we say thank you!”

  • Locker Library

    Funded Jul 25, 2023

The locker library has been an amazing addition to our class. This year, our team has our students rotating to each other's rooms for academics. My classtime is dedicated to vocational skills. Students have sorted, labeled and organized the books. During other classtimes (i.e, English, Math, Science), they are easily accessible with locks that are manageable. It has made a world of difference.

The bean bag chair has made a safe space for overwhelmed students and a comfortable place to read.

The books are age appropriate and engaging for high schoolers. Let me tell you, the new books have been quite the hit! One student has been asking for so long for more "sport girl books" and this fulfilled her wish!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Involve Me, I Understand

    Funded Jan 19, 2023

While our initial plans for this grant did not go as planned, as per usual, we adjusted. Our class was excited to use materials in time for the Chinese New Year, however the timing did not align. We, of course, implemented a lesson to teach this topic, and have the materials provided to continue this project in the future.

This project became the foundation of a classroom project that has been so beneficial. Students have since created monthly items to put into teachers mailboxes. Students practice job skills that have taught them important work ethic. In addition, it allowed for a student to learn coping strategies to calm.

We are so excited to continue this project next year and will adjust and improve, all based on the resources that were provided through the generosity of others.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Lunch Able

    Funded Nov 27, 2022

To say that this grant is a game-changer is an understatement! Students that once relied solely on adults have now learned to communicate and complete tasks in the kitchen. From the iPad starting the daily spaghetti meal to the color coded knives to support proper use of utensils, students are growing!

We are so thankful that your support gave our kitchen space a much needed upgrade. It has allowed us to be more with the times. Technology has advanced so much and items have been created to help support all types of minds. You have allowed us to teach relevant and new ways to access our daily lunch routine.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Stick to the Basics

    Funded Nov 11, 2022

Thank you so much for supplying our classroom with basic necessities and fun supplements. Students are more inclined to go with the flow when mistakes are fixed from gluing using the removable glue sticks. We can just pick and re-stick! No more stress about tearing paper or making a mess.

The stickers have been so great to use as positive reinforcement. They have been a welcome addition to our class store.

The glue gun and Velcro are also so helpful in creating tasks for students. We as a staff are able to quickly and efficiently able to create and share new ideas with students in a timely manner.”

    With gratitude,

  • Hidden Agenda

    Funded Mar 5, 2022

Thank you so much! Now calendar time can be more interactive and applicable to real life. Learning the difference between an event and a holiday has helped us make plans. ALL students are able to join in class discussions with the use of the iPad. Ready made stickers help each student focus on reading and using a calendar rather than spelling and fitting words in a small box. The large calendar on the whiteboard has peaked the interest of students, wanting to know what's next! Students are excited to be involved in planning and leading events with regular education students as part of their club and your support has given them the necessary tools to teach them.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

  • Ready...Get Set...GO!

    Funded Apr 8, 2022

For the first time in 3 years, our school hosted Special Olympics Spring Games. This amazing two-day event is part of our school culture. With so many students never having attended, due to COVID, the speaker and megaphones, labels, batteries, stopwatches, clipboards and pens made all the difference. Items were organized so that everyone could understand the layout. Students prepared for the day by sorting items for each event. Loud communication was key as we expressed processes to over 400 people each day. Your generosity helps support this event for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Jones

Functional. Multisensory. Basic. These words describe the lessons and activities that engage the Life Skills students in my class. Split into three groups between three teachers, the overwhelming goal is to promote independence in all students, regardless of ability level. The Life Skills students, age 14-22, work hard regardless of their needs for basic and direct instruction. We promote instruction through the creative and engaging lessons, so that all students benefit. With the amazing support of donors, our class has been able to and continues to stretch the limits of students that historically have been misunderstood and given low expectations.
