  • Arts Integration to Enhance Learning

    Funded Dec 6, 2016

Thank you so much from the bottom of our hearts for your generous donation to our school art program. Your donation alone has now tripled our budget for the entire school year!!! We are truly grateful for your kind and caring donation!!

My students worked hard on their Martin Luther King Jr drawings thanks to your donation of colored pencils. We are currently preparing flag books in the fourth grade that will be integrated into their reading unit on Greek Mythology. When they complete the flag books the students will use the Mexican clay that you donated to create Greek Urns. The kids are SOOOO excited to use the cool materials, and their classroom teacher is excited that the kids are researching mythology to get ideas for their projects!!

I am truly inspired by your generosity and the fact that you dedicate your donation to your family is inspirational. When my own father passed I requested donations be forwarded to the University of the Arts Saturday lab school program for art supplies. That was before Donors Choose, which is the most amazing program!! Thank you so much for participating!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barstow

  • Making Magic With Model Magic

    Funded Dec 3, 2016

Thank you so much for your generosity in supporting my art program at Washington School. With an annual budget of $200, I don't even have enough money to purchase basic supplies, let alone fun and stimulating materials like Model Magic Clay!

My students were over the moon when they first saw the clay..it really is their favorite material to work with. Thanks to your generosity, they are able to work in 3 dimensions this year!!! The students made Black History Month hand puppets, 3D fish for their ocean habitats, and there are more surprises to come.

Not only do they get the opportunity to work in 3D, they also learn about color theory. My first graders all know how to mix primary colors into secondary colors and complementary colors...before they even touch paint! Great stuff!!

Thank you Thank you Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barstow

  • Rock, Paper, Scissors...Art

    Funded Dec 15, 2014

I can't say thank you enough for your generous donations to our art program at Washington Elementary School! It is by the grace, foresight and compassion of people and organizations like yours that we were able to have enough paper, glue sticks and construction paper to complete our art curriculum for the rest of the school year and into the beginning of this year.

It is really unfortunate how New Jersey budget cuts effect our arts programs. Even with your generous donations, I still spent hundreds of my own dollars to supplement the $100 that my school budgeted for art supplies for an entire elementary school for an entire school year.

Our students were very proud to display their work at the Trenton War Memorial and Ellerslie Bi-Annual art shows, and we had a winning entry in the Mercer County Conservation District poster contest. Who knows what our students might achieve next with your help and care!!

I don't know how we would have been able to operate without your donation and my students are eternally grateful. Thank you donors and thank you DonorsChoose!!!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Barstow

We are an urban New Jersey school situated in a deplorable neighborhood. Most students are provided with free lunches and for some this is their only nutritious meal of the day. 2010 was a terrible blow to our school with all of the cuts in the New Jersey state budget. Our needs are many and we do our best to provide basic supplies in our classrooms in order to provide these at-risk students with the quality education that they deserve. Our teachers and students work hard every day to close the learning gap, quantified by our rising standardized test scores. Our art budget was hit hard this year and we can only provide some of the supplies we would like to have for our students. We are currently using leftover colored pencils and erasers, which I would love to replace with new ones. So much creative potential is lying dormant in these little people and I would love to be able to inspire their greatness!
