  • Lights, Camera, Action! Reader's Theatre Program Needs Help!

    Funded Dec 4, 2013

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all again for your generosity! The resources that were purchased for my students made an enormous difference in the lives of the students I teach. My students were moved by the idea that strangers would give money to help children they would never meet have a better experience in the Reader's Theatre program.

The resources I requested were extremely basic but critical to the proper functioning of a Reader's Theatre program. I was asking for copy paper and two pocket folders. There was no way I could have had enough of these materials to give each of my nearly 800 students a folder and a script for each

of the plays we did throughout the school year if not for your donations.

In order for my students to be able to practice the readings and gain fluency they would have to have a copy of each script in order to practice at home. Your generosity made this possible. I wish you all could see the look on a child's face when they master a script they could hardly read when they first encounter it! Thank you for making that possible!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Acevedo-Gonzales

Children learn best when learning is fun and engaging. I teach at a low income Title 1 school in Brooklyn New York. We currently have over 1,500 students. We have a large Special Education program as well as an enormous population of English language learners. We will be introducing Reader's Theatre this year. Reader's Theatre has been proven to engage learners of all abilities and language levels in activities that strengthen literacy and language skills.I am fortunate enough to be teaching this course in grades K-5. Because of the diverse population I will be serving, I am in need of a large amount of resources.
