How Much Bacteria Is Around Us?
Funded Nov 1, 2023Thank you so much for your donations! My students are eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the incubator so they can start collecting their data. I love having my students collect data to answer their real-world questions. Unfortunately, the necessary equipment and resources are often beyond the budget of my school. This incubator will be well-used. This year it will help one student monitor the amount of bacteria in the river near our school. A second student will be looking into antibiotic resistant bacteria. A third student will be using it to evaluate the potential of spices to impede bacterial growth. A fourth student will be evaluating the amount of bacteria that are present in makeup samplers at a popular store and a fifth student will examine the amount of bacteria present in expired makeup. Nine other students will also be using the incubator to answer their questions. Your donation will help my students become true scientists and hopefully inspire them to continue asking questions about the world around them. Again, thank you. Your donation has made this type of learning possible.”

Funded Oct 31, 2023Thank you so much for your donations! My students are going to be so excited each Monday morning when we review the animal images captured over the weekend–I know that I can’t wait to see who visits our campus when we’re not here. This camera will allow students to become wildlife biologists, collecting meaningful real-world data about biodiversity in our urban ecosystem. Instead of just reading recommendations about how to increase biodiversity, my students will be able to develop a targeted plan based on the needs of the organisms that already live here. Once we implement the plan, we will also be able to use the camera to monitor the effectiveness of our efforts. Through this project students will see that their efforts are important and can help protect the environment where they live. Again, thank you. This project would not have been possible without your donations.”

Funded Feb 21, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations. We are so excited that the project was fully funded and are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our camera. Not a day goes by in class when I don't think, "I wish I could get a picture of that..." and now I will be able to!
I am particularly excited to be able to record videos of my 8th grade students during their field trip presentations. The students will finally be able to see themselves during the tour and will be able to recognize the strengths of their presentations and identify any needed corrections.
I look forward to sharing pictures of my students and our classroom activities with you.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Griffith
