We are at a special education school, and there are 11 high school age students in my class. While all these students have intellectual disabilities and are unable to read, you can see they want to learn. They all love to look at pictures in books or magazines, and enjoy listening to stories related to them. Pictures give them cues to read words and to understand stories better. They also talk more when they see what they're interested in. When someone brings a magazine that carries pictures that they like, they become very excited and expressive with their thoughts.
