iPads for Students with Autism
Funded Nov 2, 2010On behalf of the many students with autism and other developmental disabilities at out school, I am writing to offer the most sincere thanks for your kindness and generosity. Through your gift of two iPads, our school is better equipped to provide our students with highly motivating and engaging learning activities that encourage and inspire appropriate social interactions and communication. Already, we have begun to see the impact of this technology in our classrooms, and students are requesting the presence of the iPads in lessons and activities throughout the day.
Students with autism have difficulties with social interaction, language and communication, and adaptive behaviors. These iPads are addressing these (and other) areas of need by providing a highly motivating and reinforcing technological aspect to lessons and activities, and they are providing a reward for appropriate and positive behaviors. Students are learning to share and take turns, to interact appropriately together, and to exhibit appropriate behaviors in attempts to earn time with this technology. Moreover, we have already seen students using the iPads as augmentative, alternative communication devices, as well as for meaningful learning opportunities in all core academic areas.
I cannot express how thankful I am, along with all of my colleagues and all of our students, for your kind and thoughtful donation. It is thanks to you and your kindness that we have been able to improve the educational environment for our students, and this improvement will affect our classrooms and our students for years to come!”
With gratitude,

Provide a "Sensory Diet" for Students with Autism
Funded Sep 7, 2009I want to thank you again for your very generous donation. The students at my school have been using the materials and benefiting greatly from their therapeutic effects. Students who are "hypo-sensitive," or under-aroused, are using the medicine balls to strengthen their muscles and "wake up" their bodies. Students who are hyper-sensitive, or over-aroused, have been using the bean bag chairs for deep pressure relaxation exercises to help remain calm and focused. Students who have tactile sensory needs and fine- or gross-motor challenges have been using the bean bags to develop muscle control and coordination. These are just a few examples of the positive impact of the sensory integration materials you have kindly provided for my program.
The materials are housed in the school's yoga and movement classroom. This room is shared by all 10 classes of students with autism (60 students in total) for yoga class, aerobics, movement therapy, and sensory integration exercises. The yoga/movement teacher is able to utilize the materials in conjunction with his adaptive physical education curriculum to address the individual needs of our students. Our 10 classroom teachers, as well as our speech and language pathologists, occupational therapists, and physical therapists, also have access to the materials, which they can incorporate into their individual or small-group sessions with students.
Again, I cannot say enough how thankful we are for your kindness. You have touched the lives of several children with autism and helped several professionals with their efforts to provide sensory-based interventions for students with special needs. The success of these materials is evident from the smiles on the students' faces when they interact with the tools you have provided. Again, thank you.”

Reaching Children with Autism through Music Therapy
Funded Feb 8, 2005On behalf of the students, I would like to thank you for your very generous donation. The musical supplies you have purchased for our autistic program will allow our students the opportunity to use musical and rhythmic therapy in order to learn fine and gross motor, social interaction, sensory integration, and various other important skills. The musical instruments you have provided for these children will allow them each to address very important aspects of autism, as well as to grow and develop toward their personal academic and life-skill goals. Thanks to your kindness, our program will now be equipped with much needed materials that will allow all 42 of our students with autism to interact, learn, and have fun every day. I cannot thank you enough for your kindness. You have given a wonderful gift to a group of very special children. You have given each child the opportunity to interact within the world outside of their autism, and to do so in a healthy, age-appropriate manner. Thanks again for your amazing generosity”
