This year I will be teaching second grade in a low-income district in Northern California. My class will be comprised of diverse learners, some of who are students with special needs who are fully included and mainstreamed into the general education classroom and 2nd grade curriculum. Students who enter second grade at my school typically have academic levels below the expectation of incoming second graders. Almost all of our students are English language learners and qualify for free and reduced lunch.
