Technology to Create Critical Thinkers
Funded Oct 17, 2014Our students were so excited when the new i-pads arrived. They were impressed that one company would care enough about our class to donate six i-pads! We are so grateful. Your generosity has meant a lot to each of us.
We are currently using the i-pads with small group instruction. We have loaded apps that help with reading and math. Some of the favorites are multiplication drills, Krypto (a math game), and the Kahn academy which helps explain math using video presentations. It is a wonderful sight for me to see students willingly using these resources to improve their learning.
We have also used the i-pads to enhance a research project. The students were able to research as small groups. Then they added pictures and text from their research to present to our class. It was a wonderful opportunity to use multimedia resources to our research.
I'm sure as we use them in the future we will have many more stories to tell about how your donation has impacted our classroom. Thank you again for your generosity and kindness.”

Motivating Reading Success
Funded Oct 22, 2013The students in our class are very thankful for your generosity in funding our e-reader grant. There is an excited buzz about what they are reading. I am amazed that a simple change from standard books to the e-readers has really motivated them to read more. I love that many of the students can be reading the same book and that motivates them to read and talk about it with a friend. I love that I can put books at different reading levels on the e-readers and there is not the stigma of reading a easier book. This helps my students who struggle because now it appears as if they are reading exactly what the others are reading. Having the e-readers has really improved reading in our class. Thank you so much for helping me achieve this goal for my students.”

Technology for Today's Classroom
Funded Nov 2, 2012Thank you so very much for the donation of Sony Readers for our class. We have been using them in our small reading groups. Each student is able to use the reader for three weeks. They can read any of the books on the reader but must read the one we are discussing as a group. It has really increased the desire to read. Many reluctant readers are now willing to finish assigned reading goals because they got to do it with the readers. Several students have finished their assigned book and read one or two other books during their time to use the reader. Thank you for the support of our reading program. I have really seen a change in the atmosphere of our class and their attitude toward reading.”

Calculating in the Class
Funded Nov 4, 2011Our new calculators arrived today. There was so much excitement in our fifth grade class as the boxes were opened and the calculators were distributed for examination. "These are so cool" was a common consensus. Then as we began to put the calculators away one student asked if he could use the calculator to correct his math that we had just completed. A new wave of excitement rolled over the class as they each pulled out their assignments and looked the assignments over for errors.
It was a wonderful experience to see the thrill of getting the right answer and the challenge of finding out where you made a mistake if the answer was found incorrect. I am very grateful for your help in making this happen for our class. And our exploration has only just begun. We have so many more things to learn and explore using these calculators.
I am touched by your generosity of funding this project. We are thankful for your dedication to education. Thank yo so very much.”
