  • Calming Area

    Funded Mar 13, 2023

My students were beyond excited for their new wobble chairs and floor chairs for the library. Because we have a diverse range of students, it seemed like there was something for everyone. The kids are excited to relax with a book in a calm, quiet area and read with their friends or on their own. I also added inspirational posters and calming colors for the area to complete the look and feel of their quiet space.

Our small group table has wobble chairs that they absolutely love. They beg to go there to do reading, writing and math.

All of my students come from low income areas and oftentimes miss out on the "cool" stuff they see in other homes, areas or classes. I am so grateful to be able to give them an environment that they are excited and proud of.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Batson

  • iThink iCan

    Funded Jan 24, 2012

My students have started using the ipad in the classroom and couldn't be more excited! They have been reading and learning with apps!!! Some of the games they have been playing have them matching rhyming words, finding ending patterns in words, matching words with their pictures and reading (with help if they need it). Since the games are all interactive, the students are motivated to learn and listen. They are able to feel confident and successful while learning at the same time! Thank you again for all of your help in giving my students this opportunity... They are loving this experience opening their eyes to a whole new level of learning!!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Batson

  • Roaming DIBELS and More!!!

    Funded Dec 9, 2011

Thank you so much for funding our laptop computer! Students are so excited to work on the laptop and learn some of the programs I have downloaded for them. Besides their usual Jiji time on the computer in the room, they are becoming familiar with some websites that offer educational games in literacy and math. They are having so much fun while learning grade level standards. Getting to learn and become comfortable on a computer will further their educational skills. This is an opportunity that most of my students would not have had, had it not been for your generous donations. Thank you again!”

    With gratitude,

  • Capturing Learning!!!

    Funded Dec 17, 2011

Thank you so much for helping to fund a digital camera for our classroom. We have had so much fun using it in just the few days since we received it. The students are so engaged in the activities they are working on, hoping that I will walk by with the camera and take their pictures. They love walking by and looking at their photos on the bulletin board and talking about the activity they were doing when the picture was taken... They can't wait to take the pictures home to show their families. Thank you again for the generosity and getting my students excited and engaged!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Batson

Originally my goal was to find a tool that would make DIBELing my students easy, accessible, and meaningful. For those of you not familiar with DIBELS, it is a new program in which you test your students throughout the year in fluency, phonemic awareness and much more. The state requires testing three times during the year and recommends progress monitoring between these three. Fortunately, my TA and I have come up with a comprehensive plan/schedule for tracking students progress and working with them daily in small groups in order for them to master each category. To accomplish this though, you must be on the Internet at least weekly. If you have been in a classroom of 24 1st graders, you would know the difficulty in fitting testing into a 40 minute block when the TA is there, and especially on your own at the teachers desk while they are working independently. Having said that, a laptop would ensure my mobility to make DIBELing a lot more accessible to both me and my students.
