  • Books to Read and Cherish

    Funded Aug 15, 2019

Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. The students were so excited to read, "The Name of This Book is a Secret" because they love the mystery genre; but imagine their surprise when I told them that thanks to your generosity, the books are their's to keep! They were in total shock and were so thankful that they could add this "cool" book to their home libraries after we are finished reading it.

My students are reluctant readers so by giving them books to own, it is like giving them a treasure to cherish into the future and as a teacher, of course I believe the gift of reading is invaluable!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kohm

  • Copy That! Technology That Helps Students Create Amazing Presentations!

    Funded Jul 4, 2019

Thank you so much for your donation to our classroom. The printer has been an invaluable resource for the students in creating presentations as well as printing graphic organizers for the students to use with their everyday work.

The students have been able to work on their research projects and then print out graphics and pictures to support their research to present to the class. As a teacher I have been able to use the printer to create and use graphic organizers to help the students in every subject area.

We can't thank you enough for the generosity and care you have shown toward our class in your donation!”

  • We Can See Clearly Now... With a Rolling Whiteboard!

    Funded May 16, 2018

We can't thank you enough for your kind and generous donation to our classroom! The rolling whiteboard has been so useful in all of our lessons. We have put our Word/Sound Wall on one side of the whiteboard for easy reference and because the whiteboard is magnetic, we are able to add to and adjust the Word/Sound Wall as needed!

We use the other side of the whiteboard for whole class and small group lessons. I am able to roll the whiteboard around the classroom so that the students can see the lesson better when I am teaching the whole class. My co-teachers and I are also able to use the whiteboard for small group instruction and because the board is so large, all the students can see it!

The students also love to play "teacher" during Fun Friday by putting their "lessons" on the rolling whiteboard and teaching their peers!

Thank you again for your generosity and for supporting our class and our learning!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kohm

  • Smile Math! You're on Camera!

    Funded Aug 6, 2017

It is hard to describe the amazing positive impact having the document camera has had on our classroom! We use the document camera for almost every lesson and it allows the students to easily follow along with the class activities.

In math, I am able to demonstrate math concepts using manipulatives which I can now project onto our smart board screen for all the students to see. In addition, I am able to draw and write examples directly into the textbook as well as underline and call attention to important concepts in the book and on worksheets.

In reading, I am now able to annotate text on the screen and fill in graphic organizers right along with the students helping them stay organized and on-task. And when students volunteer, I am able to show student examples directly from their desk to the screen!

In writing, I am able to project writing examples and mentor texts directly from the book to the screen so the students can see the concepts in context.

We are just so thankful for you generous contribution to our classroom and cannot thank you enough for your kindness!”

  • High Energy With High Concentration!

    Funded Dec 25, 2016

Thank you so much for you generous contribution to the classroom! I wish I could adequately describe to you the excitement and joy the students felt as each successive package arrived with their fidgets, bouncy bands, and seating wedges! The students likened it to opening presents at Christmas!

The class was especially excited about the bouncy bands because, with your donation, every child in the classroom now has a bouncy band on their desk to help them burn off excess energy and maintain focus. The students know this is a quiet way to channel their energy.

The seating wedges are used and shared as necessary to help students maintain the proper level and posture for writing at their desks.

The variety of fidgets have proven popular and after some discussion and teaching on how to use the fidgets and still focus on work, the students have found the fidgets soothing and use them maintain focus.

Your dedication to supporting the students in our classroom is inspiring. Thank you again for your thoughtfulness and care!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kohm

  • One World: Many Perspectives

    Funded Jun 21, 2015

Thank you again for donating to our classroom! We have been busy learning place value and practicing math g with the computer you donated to our classroom. We now have enough computers to have a math center which has greatly enhanced the students' math learning and experience! And with the printer you donated, the students have been able to print out their work for reference.

We have also used the computer to watch videos and see photos of places we are reading about in our books - namely Antarctica and the Native American people of New York State. The students are better able to understand the concepts we are learning about by viewing visuals of the topics.

The globe has been especially useful for the students and they love picking it up and pointing out places we are learning about around the world. It is an especially wonderful tool to show students where places in the world are in relation to where they live in New York City.

Thank you again for your generosity and care!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kohm

  • Place Value Has Value!

    Funded Sep 5, 2014

Thank you so much for generous donation to help my students master Place Value!

We used the Place Value Boards throughout our math unit and still currently use them for our unit on multiplication and to strengthen core Place Value concepts. The large teacher Place Value Board has been very helpful when teaching the whole class because all the students can see it and follow along with their individual boards. The Place Value Boards are especially handy when students have to add and subtract multi-digit numbers and when renaming numbers.

The Place Value Boards have become so integral to the students' learning that when they are doing independent work they automatically pull out the boards to aid in their computation and problem-solving.

The Place Value computer game has been a fun way to solidify place value concepts. It helps the students understand that learning and math can be useful and fun!

Thank you again for your generous donation - my students and I are so grateful!”

  • Reading Rug and Feeling Snug

    Funded Sep 8, 2011

I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your thoughtfulness in fulfilling our classroom request for a reading rug.

We use the rug every single day for lessons, small group instruction, games, cozy reading and just hanging out! The genre boxes allow students to have delineated spots and provide the opportunity for me to teach them about the genres they are sitting on!

Now that winter is approaching, the rug has meant so much more to our classroom. The students are no longer sitting on the cold tile floor and can enjoy the comfort, coziness, and warmth the rug and pillows provide to make reading and learning an enjoyable experience!

Thank you again for your generosity and supporting our classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Kohm

  • The Miraculous Journey Of...Inspired Readers

    Funded May 16, 2009

I wanted to write and thank you for your generous donation of summer reading books for all of my students. Photos and words could not capture the happiness of my students when I presented them with their very own copy of a well-loved book to read over the summer and add to their bookshelves at home! The students were beaming and all of them opened the book immediately and started reading their favorite parts and pointing to favorite pictures.

The books were especially chosen to match their reading level and their interests so that it would be a book they would read often over the summer. Hopefully in this way we can avoid some of the reading loss many students experience over the summer and continue to inspire a love of reading.

I asked the students to come back in September and tell me all about their books so I am looking forward to many stories about Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, Elephant and Piggie, Edward Tulane! Thank you again for your kindness!”

  • Reading Can Be a Cushy Job

    Funded Apr 1, 2009

I wanted to write to thank you for the pillows you so kindly donated to our classroom. All of the students are now able to find a quiet space in the room and snuggle up with a good book during reading time. Instead of laying on the cold tile floor, they are able to be comfortable and cozy.

I used to have to cajole the students to read their books but now they beg me for more reading time so that they can use their pillows! Having the students motivated and excited about reading is exactly the outcome I hoped for. Your generous donation has had an immense impact on our classroom and the students and I thank you for this.”
