How Do You Spell That?

Funded Oct 30, 2008

I cannot begin to tell you how very much your donation is appreciated! At the time that I wrote my proposal, over the summer break, I never imagined what the future held for our little school. As I explained in my description of our school, we were still recovering from Hurricane Rita, which hit in 2005. Little did I know, Mother Nature had another hurricane in store for us. Hurricane Ike hit on September 13th and completely destroyed our school – again! Our entire school was flooded with 8’ to 10’ of water. Walls and windows were completely washed away, leaving very little behind. When I visited the campus after the storm, I was only able to dig a small handful of my teaching supplies out of the mud. We literally lost everything that was in the building (fortunately, we did evacuate what we could ahead of the storm). Bulldozers and other heavy equipment will soon begin to remove what is left of our building that is beyond repair.

Although we missed a month of school, we are now back in the classroom sharing the campus of another school. This school also suffered great damage and loss. To say that supplies are at a bare minimum is an understatement! For this reason, your help is needed and appreciated more than ever. I can’t wait to receive and begin using our new dictionaries and thesauruses. They will really enhance reading and writing instruction in our classroom. Just this week, in fact, a couple of my students were actually asking for a dictionary. I am so happy to be able to tell my kids that help is on the way!

Again, I sincerely thank you for your kindness and generosity. It warms my heart to know that there are people out there that care enough to share their blessings with those in need. I am confident that your donation will help my students to succeed in 4th grade and pass the high stakes LEAP test. Thanks again for choosing to help me educate my students!

Sincerely,

Lesli”

With gratitude,
