The Day Learning Came Alive!
Funded Dec 8, 2018Thank you once again for helping with the editing supplies and the document camera.
The document camera projects whatever it's focused on -whether it be an assignment, art project, etc.- onto a screen where all the students can see it, and see the teacher or fellow student interact with it in a variety of ways: taking notes, or demonstrating a structure to use for writing, or art technique, etc.
Even though it's a piece of technology, it provides a more "analog" experience, because the students are using paper and writing or art utensils for their work. The other way these kinds of tasks and demonstrations are often done is through the projection of the computer screen, with students also on computers. This is fine for some of the time, but the document camera allows for the removal of some of the physical technology and seems to cultivate more creativity.
Using the colored pencils and post-its to magnify the annotations is also enhancing the learning experience. Students are able to see and understand text features that remain elusive when not highlighted. When used with the document camera, the room gets focused and students are generally more engaged. I am starting to see positive results in their writing and in their reading comprehension.
Thank you so much!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Hickman
