  • Tech Savvy

    Funded Apr 24, 2025

Thank you so much for making this donation and congratulations on your win in Celebrity Jeopardy. I am so excited about what your win means for me, my students and other teachers and students. I am a proud Oaklander myself and want the best for my community too. Thank you for making this happen.”

  • Classroom Pets

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

Thank you so much for your kind donation. In the pictures that I posted, you can see all the items that were funded. Now we have enough supplies until the end of the school year. I also posted a before and after picture of our fish tank. In the before picture, you can see how the decor was very deteriorated and needed replacement. My students and I are very pleased with how the fish tank looks now. It is so much healthier and beautiful. I have so much appreciation for your help. Thank you.”

  • New Games

    Funded Oct 16, 2024

Thank you so much for making this project come to life. My students have already began using the new classroom games. We are using them on rainy days. I added some photos so that you can see the students are playing with different games. I can't tell if they have a favorite game. They are interested in playing all of them.

Without your support, I would not have been able to provide all these new games for my students. They will be enjoyed for years to come. Thank you so much for your support.”

  • Water Bottles

    Funded Oct 18, 2024

Thank you so much for your kind donation. The water bottles have been distributed. Once they all arrived, I laid out all the water bottles on a table and had students select the one of their liking. Fortunately, all students found one that they liked and I had enough for all 26 students in my class. Students took the water bottles home to wash and most have been bringing them back daily. Today I took a picture with some of the students that had their water bottle as we made a circle around our water bottles. Thank you so much.”

  • Listening to Learn

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Thank you for making this project come to life. We have already been using this speaker at least twice a week. I shared a couple of pictures in which we brought it out to the yard during physical education. We have used it in many games, for students to give commands and others follow. We have also used it in the classroom to present on what is special to us. I have used it on many occasions to teach lessons in which students are working in groups and the noise level is higher than usual. I can't express how thankful I am, I really appreciate your support.”

  • Class Supplies

    Funded Jun 26, 2024

Ms. Carey, thank you for making this donation to help me improve my classroom. The first thing we put into use were the Sharpies. I had students label their materials using the color Sharpie to match with their color coded table. The purple Sharpies were a big hit, possibly because they are not so common, that other students wanted to use them too.

We have used the Play-Doh once to count items as part of a math activity and another to use it in a social emotional lesson. Using the Play-Doh students were told to show how they felt. I plan to do this lesson more often, because students enjoy it and it brings a positive vibe to the class.

I also want to tell you about the pencil bags. Matilde bought pencil boxes and we use those for the classroom. The pencil bags are used for students to keep their writing utensils in their backpacks for their homework. The students loved their bags, I told them they were a gift from you. Thanks again. I hope you are well and you keep making a difference for someone.”

  • Learning About Liquids

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

My students have began working with the liquids that we needed to engage in learning. I submitted two pictures. One shows the bottles as I filled them to get them ready for our science lessons. The other is of students once they had cleaned up their experience and were beginning to take notes and make a drawing regarding their learning. These hands-on activities are always met with excitement and interest. Thank you so much for making their science lessons on liquids a burden-free lesson series for me with your monetary contribution.”

  • No More Obsolete Technology

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

I want to thank you for making this project a possibility. This computer has come in very handy. My students and I have enjoyed having functional technology that is not obsolete and slow. With this computer students are able to work on classroom activities and even assessments. I have also, made a few lessons to help students' understand how to use a Mac computer. I can't express how appreciative I am for this opportunity. This would not have been possible without your support. Thank you very much.”

  • S.T.E.M and Cricut

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your support with this project, S.T.E.M and Cricut. The possibilities in creating with this machine and tools are endless. Name tags for water bottles, lunch bags, sweaters, umbrellas and backpacks are among the most common items made. There is still so much more for me to learn about creating beautiful things. I have reached out for parent support with creating items for our class and students. An image of a flower arrangement made was posted for your enjoyment. My hope is that students will get much more from these tools.”

I teach a group of twenty-five first-grade students in one of the cities with the highest crime rate in the nation. All students at my school site receive a free lunch. 97% of my school's student population is Hispanic; most of them first generation. School is one of the only places in which my students interact with someone who speaks academic English. Living and attending school in a highly impoverished urban setting, my students are not exposed to many educational experiences outside of the classroom. Given this information, making my students' learning engaging and entertaining is highly important to maintain them focused on their education.
