Fitness Fun
Funded Aug 23, 2016My students and I are loving the resources we received. The school district requires 200 minutes of physical education for every 10 instructional days. Having a variety of equipment is helping to keep interest and motivation high for physical education. Thursday mornings have become our soccer mornings. I have found that students are so enthusiastic to get out and play that they take care of their morning business extra quickly on Thursdays. On this day, student helpers are responsible for taking our soccer nets out of storage and setting them up in the school yard. We spend the first part of our instructional time working on drills such as dribbling and passing. We spend the second half playing a scrimmage match. Through theses activities students have demonstrated growth and they are having so much fun doing so.
We were fortunate that our materials arrived in waves. Every time we received a delivery they were so excited! Our first delivery was the footballs and the football flags. The students cheered as each item was unpacked out of the boxes. My favorite memory of the delivery process, was when our soccer nets arrived. Students were so excited to see the nets, that most of them gave up their lunch play time to come in to the class to help me build the first net.
As I look ahead, my goal is to continue to build and strengthen all my students' abilities in soccer, volleyball, and football. Thanks to your generosity I have all the tools I need to accomplish this goal. I am excited to see where my students will be at the end of the school year. Everyone participates in physical education and I am finding that all students, even those who are reluctant to participate in sports, are motivated and gaining more confidence in their athletic abilities thanks to this project.”
