My students are 5th grade kids who live in the inner-city of Los Angeles. In our neighborhood students are surrounded by concrete and high rise buildings all around. But this year, we've allowed books take us through time, and transform our environment to a variety of destinations. Students who claimed to not like books, now read books beyond their grade level for pleasure. Part of this process has been to find new ways to present and discuss what they've read.
