  • Projector to Bring Learning to Life

    Funded Oct 11, 2015

Thank you all very much for your donations to the Projector Project. Both myself and my students can't wait to open our minds to all the educational tools that the projector will connect us to. It's wonderful knowing that my students can learn through videos, online resources, and PowerPoint presentations without crowding around one small computer screen. Thank you for investing not only in my students now and in the future but also in the field of education as well. Again thank you for this amazing gift. We are now able to have the school year we all have been hoping for.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Colon

  • Color Printer

    Funded May 13, 2014

I set up the new printer one afternoon after class, moving my dinosaur of a black and white printer out and replacing it with the shiny new colored printer. Being 6-year olds, the kids didn't notice the change right away. They eventually noticed the large black box under the desk and started asking questions - where did it come from? What is it for? Can we touch it? I explained to them that it was a gift for the classroom, and that yes, they could touch it. Gently.

The next day thanks to the new colored printer, I was able to create colorful new vocabulary cards with pictures that captured the children's eyes and helped them learn about machines - the subject of our current unit. Students later created their own inventions using recycled materials, and we were able to take pictures and print them in color, which we displayed in the classroom along with their written descriptions.

I am already starting to create materials to use for next year's students - phonics, alphabet, and other vocabulary games - that are much more effective and engaging for students' learning when printed in color, which is only possible now due to your generosity in helping provide a colored printer for our classroom.

Thank you for your generosity which has helped enhance our learning environment this year.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Colon

The students in my classroom are bilingual learners, who are developing their English and Spanish language skills. They rely on visuals to access vocabulary. They come from all over Boston, and represent a range of Latin and Caribbean countries. They are at an age, where they are eager to learn and curious about the world.
