Clean and Simple
Funded Sep 14, 2020These cleaning supplies have been extremely helpful. Your donations have made such a huge difference. I know that it seems like most schools are prepared, and they are, but having these extras on hand has really helped to keep my classroom sanitized and safe. This has been important, because my students have so much to worry about, that getting sick should not be a concern, and with these cleaning materials and hand sanitizer, we have been bale to do just that. Again, I can not express how much this means to my class and I.”

Funded Dec 7, 2019I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you again for you generous donations. Writing is a very large part of my classroom. My students write not only in literacy, but also in social studies, science, and even numeracy. We take the time to learn the all of the different styles of writings and the subjects they can be used for. With this comes a lot of material consumption. Without these, I would never be able to have my students write as much as they do now. These notebooks and supplies will carry us through the remainder of the school year. Thank you again for your generosity.”

Novel Novels!
Funded Dec 4, 2019I want to start off by thanking you for your generous donations. I always try to find literature that I know will captivate my students. These books are the perfect tool for that. For at least twenty minutes a day, my students choose any book they would like to read, find a comfortable spot in the classroom and just read. I do my best to create comfortable interesting environments that let my students really get in to their books without distraction. Having a good book is also essential to this. It lets my students drift off in to the book itself and really immerse themselves in what they are reading. These books, will help my students get there. It will give them the "foot in the door" for what a good book can do for them. Thank you again for giving my students this opportunity by supplying these books.”

Funded Oct 24, 2019Thank you very much for your donations. These basic materials are some of the vital tools my students need to be able to work to the best of their abilities. Not only will they not have to worry about if they have something as simple as a pencil or a notebook, but now they also know that they each have a few extras, such as the erasers. With one less thing to worry about, they can now turn their focus towards their work and continue to be the best version of themselves.
Additionally, I would like to thank you for the Kleenex and Purell. As you know, cold and flu season is upon us and these things will help to keep our classroom as germ free as possible and hopefully help to maintain our attendance.
I thank you again, from the bottom of my heart. We appreciate each of you more than simple words can describe.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Daunis

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you very much for your generous donations. These graphic novels have really helped to inspire my students. Not only are they excited about reading, they are excited that they can have relatable material to discuss with each other. Watching them debate plot points and perspectives has really given me the opportunity to develop these skills and more easily translate them over to some of the full novels that we are reading in class. Thank you again for making this happen for us. My students have become more engaged and more interested in their reading than they ever were before. Thank you again.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for your generous donations. My students have really loved having a little more freedom to snuggle up and find a comfy spot with these bean bags. By having these bean bags, you have allowed me to let my students to find a spot that they may be more productive in. Not only have they been beneficial in an academic sense, but they have also helped some of my students who tend to be restless. Now they can move around, and I don't only mean throughout the classroom, but they can also move around on the bean bag and reform it in multiple ways while working to help focus themselves. In all, these been bags have been extremely useful and we are very excited to have them.”

Funded Mar 6, 2018Thank you very much for your generous donations. Many people underplay the idea of using graphic novels in the classroom, but when used properly they can teach a wide range of literacy skills while captivating the students.
The initial idea was to use these graphic novels to help reinforce lessons involving character traits. This happened and it was quite successful. My students loved debating among themselves about the motivations and traits that a particular character would portray.
In addition to this, the graphic novels have proved to be a very useful tool for teaching other concepts. More recently, I have been using them to teach vocabulary and using context clues. Not just the traditional context clues from the text, but also clues from the artwork/pictures.
Moving forward, I intend to acquire more graphic novels in order to continue working on literacy skills with my students. Not only are they a fantastic tool for captivating my students attention but they have also allowed me to to show my students that literature in the traditional form (Non-electronic) can be as exciting and interesting as anything they can find on the Internet.”

A Love of Literacy
Funded Feb 19, 2018Thank you very much for your generous donation. These books are really going to help my students get involved and invested in several literacy concepts. The most prominent among those is the concept of character traits and inferencing.
Graphic novels offer a fantastic window in to the specific character traits of many characters. Through the characters actions and words, my students will be able to determine what is motivating a specific persons actions. Granted, this can be done with any text. But, by using graphic novels, I am tapping in to the popularity of superheroes and films that most of my students are interested in.
Additionally, inferencing is a skill that graphic novels and comic books lends itself to. Almost every issue of a comic book and most graphic novels end in a "cliffhanger" of sorts. This forces my students to debate what might happen next. By driving the direction of this conversation with pointed questions, I can illicit certain concepts and ideas out of the students while also building their excitement to receive or read the next issue.
In all, thank you, is not enough to describe how thankful we are for what you have done for us. We appreciate it more than you know.”

Funded Dec 2, 2017These books have already done wonderful things in my classroom. They not only have began to excite my students about reading, that is not on a screen of some type, but they have also proved to be very useful during our literacy time. My students come to our reading groups excited to talk about what they read. They want to really delve in to the characters and their motivations. The best part is, they don't even realize they are doing it. They think they are just talking about the comics they read. Again, I wanted to thank you for providing the materials that have made this possible and I look forward to the endless possibilities that these books will give us.”

A Love of Literacy
Funded Oct 25, 2017These new resources have been a fantastic addition to my classroom. Normally, in reading, we all read the same story from a large basal reader. These stories do not have much in the way of content that excites my students.
With the books you have provided I can now teach reading, not only on different levels, but also using material that has interesting content. The students get really excited to meet at the table and discuss their interpretations of the chapters or chapters they just finished.
Another reason these books have been great is because they each have a motion picture adaption. This gives my students a layer of familiarity. They know the title and are familiar with the story, but not in as detailed a way as they would if they read the book.
In all these books have been fantastic. We are more and more excited with each passing day as we get through our stories. We could never thank you enough for what you have done for us.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Daunis
