Many of the students at my school are from a low socio-economic background. When I ask them what books they read at home, it is not uncommon for me to hear, "We don't have any books." I love them with all of my heart and will do whatever it takes to help them get on the right track with their education. At our school, we stress reading at home, and reading in the classroom. First grade is a key year in my students' lives. If they are reading below their grade level (which some of my class is doing), it's important to get them up to speed before they enter 2nd grade and get even further behind.
