  • All We Need is a Toner Cartridge!

    Funded Jan 1, 2016

Thank you so much for your generous donation of a toner cartridge for our classroom printer. I have made it a requirement this year that my seventh graders type their research papers; they need to get comfortable with typing and working in Google Docs. However, when it comes time to print out their work and share it with one another, many students are typically at a loss. Many of them do not have printers, and if they do, they are often out of ink! So it's a pleasure to be able to offer them printing in our classroom.

The kids also appreciate having the printer accessible in our classroom when they are working on posters and other projects. I have one student in particular who is a visual learner, and he really appreciates being able to incorporate photo collages into his projects. We just completed persuasive essays about the best classroom pet to adopt for the seventh grade, and he was very engaged with being able to print out pictures of rabbits to accompany his project. (The winner was hamster, in case you are curious).

Thank you so much for your help. I wish everyone would get involved with helping our kids the way you did!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thibodeau

  • The Misfits: High Quality Teen Lit With a Vital Message

    Funded Sep 17, 2015

Thank you so so much for the 25 copies of The Misfits! This is a wonderful book about kids who have the guts to be different and to stand up for one another, and I feel like it's so important to read this together in the seventh grade (which has to be the toughest year to be a kid, in my opinion). My students have been very excited to each have a copy of their own to take home to read; normally, I need to photocopy chapters and then most of it I end up reading out loud.

We will be reading the book in April to kick off our No-Name-Calling week, so I apologize if the photos look a little staged, but I hope you can see how thrilled they are. This was incredibly generous of you, and I really, really appreciate your contribution. I will use these copies for years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Thibodeau

My school is a dual-language Mandarin and English school; our population is primarily Asian, and most of our students qualify for free lunch. Many of our students are first-generation Americans. The kids work incredibly hard, especially at the middle-school level, competing to earn spots in a NYC specialized high school.
