  • A Printer Goes a Long Way

    Funded Oct 25, 2024

Thank you for the donation of a printer. It's the first time we have had a working printer in our class. It's so nice to be able to access fun engaging lessons with the extra scaffolding of printed material.

They say you learn better if you hear it, write it, and see it. The printer allows us to be able to do just that. I can teach and they can see it on the board and their own copies. Also, they can express their own learning on paper the way they understand it best.

I enjoy the printer so much that I run out of ink frequently. I try not to make too many copies and just use the printer for making a master copy, but sometimes I can't run to the copy room because I have a class. But it's so convenient that I just use the printer in the classroom instead. So thank you again, you are very generous.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. VanderWielen

  • Enhance Their Learning With A Simple Device

    Funded Dec 18, 2011

I want you to know how much I appreciate your gift everyday. The pencil sharpener allowed us peaceful independent work time without being interrupted by a loud mechanical sharpener. Also, the electric one is more efficient. The love using it and for some it was their first experience with an electric sharpener.

The ear buds were used at the computers during centers and independent, quiet time. The students learned to clean them before and after use and loved being able to block out the classroom noise while they concentrated on the computer. Im so grateful, thank you.”

  • Need Musical Instruments to Boost Self Esteem

    Funded Dec 31, 2011

Hi you have rewarded our class and many classes to come with a wonderful gift of music. All of the children who see the instruments are instantly drawn to them and want to try them out. I leave them out where they can use them and not feel pressured to perform. I enjoy watching them to see who emerges as the one with talent.

This year we were able to incorporate them into our Multicultural Dance and 5th grade culmination. The students and parents loved them. It was nice to have a little percussion along with songs the children sang and it made a long culmination seem shorter. It was very generous of you and Im so grateful. ”

  • Fun and Helpful Learning Supplies

    Funded Dec 17, 2011

Your gift means so much to us. Our school barely has enough money to buy our basic supplies let alone extra fun things to help the students learn. We are limited to how many copies we make and how many boxes of tissue we can have each week, so to get a gift like this was such a thrill for all of us.

We use the timers for fluency in our centers and each student knows how to time the other. I am relieved that I can work in my center with students and the other ones are working with fun, reliable tools to help them achieve their goals. I had two timers before and they were old and not accurate. Now I have one for each pair of students. So they can access them any time they have free time or are required to time each other. I used to have to teach them how to use the clock too and it was not accurate. I am so appreciative to you and the others for their generosity. ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. VanderWielen

For the most part, they are happy and healthy. But they are faced with problems of drugs, jail, domestic abuse and living in small homes with many family members. To them this is normal, however they struggle with academics in the classroom for a variety of reasons. Some have the support of parents to help them, but some parents can't help them because of deficiencies in language, education or time. Even though they arrive each day with a fresh outlook, they are soon discouraged with their below average performances on reading, writing or math. I would like to offer them another opportunity to shine besides their test scores. I feel everyone is good at something they just need the chance to try.
