BLA Courtyard Games & Storage
Funded Aug 12, 2024Thanks to the generous support of our donors, our school courtyard is on the way to being transformed into a vibrant, inviting space where students can connect, unwind, and engage with one another away from their screens. The addition of cornhole boards, a giant Jenga set, and other games will create an environment where laughter and camaraderie thrive. These activities will provide students with opportunities to build friendships, practice teamwork, and simply enjoy being kids in a safe and welcoming outdoor space.
The National Honor Society students have embraced this project, and will add a personal touch by painting the cornhole boards in our school colors of black and gold, fostering a sense of school pride. This project is more than just games; it represents the power of community and collaboration to enhance the school experience for all students. We are deeply grateful for your support in making this vision a reality!”

Funded May 7, 2019Thank you so much for funding my school's Turnitin software license. Turnitin is used by my colleagues and me for many assignments that our students submit. What is wonderful about the Turnitin platform is that flags plagiarized writing from the Internet or from fellow classmates. Not only that, it helps my students become better writers because I can allow students to peer-edit as well as to ask me for comments or suggestions online. It also helps me give my students timely feedback in an efficient manner. I truly appreciate your generosity!”

Funded Oct 13, 2018Thank you so much for your generosity! The Little Free Library project is well on its way to completion!
Students first got together to discuss what they wanted the library to look like. A great discussion was had about how this library would fit into the playground. They wanted it to be appealing to children so that they would be excited to check it out. The consensus was a light blue - like a nice day with clouds, birds, butterflies, balloons - all fun things that kids would be attracted to.
On the first nice day of early spring a large group got together and painted the exterior with 2 coats in the school courtyard. Then after the library completely dried, we brought it into my classroom and painted the scenes. We are very lucky to have some talented artist in our group!
The next steps are to construct it and install it. Thank you very much for all your help and please come visit the library after it is installed. Please follow our progress on our facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/latinacademynhs/”

The Laminator: I'll Be Back-ed
Funded May 2, 2019I'm very excited that the classroom will receive these materials! The laminator will help me make flashcards for students to prepare for the final exam next month. The tissues will be handy as allergy season is in full swing! Band-aids in the classroom means that students will not have to leave for a small cut and can take care of it on the spot!”

Funded Oct 13, 2017Well - we did it! 5 days of mosaic madness! Thank you so much for all the financial support and donations you sent in to make this happen! I cannot thank you enough for coming together as a community for the students.
Day 1 - students gathered their supplies: coasters and tiles. It was kind of a free for all! Unfortunately because of a snafu with the distributor - Blick Art - we did not have enough tiles for all the classes. Luckily it was a Friday and I spent the weekend picking up more donations and shopping the clearance aisle at Home Depot!
Day 2 - back in business! More tiles - enough for everyone. I set up a tile smashing center in the middle of the classroom. I did most of the hammering - with safety goggles of course. Students glued their tiles into the coaster in a pattern or image.
Day 3 - more smashing tiles and more gluing!
Days 4 and 5 - Grouting time - we all got a little dirty. The gloves that parents sent in were very helpful! Students had their finished mosaics!
It was an amazing experience for all of us. I'd like to think it was a creative oasis during the busy week before winter break. We couldn't have done it without you! Vobis maximās gratiās agō!”

Funded Aug 23, 2017Thank you so much for giving to my project, File this under finished! My organization is much improved now that I have received the files. I have been able to clean out my desk drawer which was atrocious. I created a new system to keep important papers and student work. Additionally I have a station where students can find the class work and homework if they were absent. It has made life a lot easier.
We also received a new chrome book in the project. That has helped fill up our chrome book cart. Now there is more technology for students to do their work.
Thank you again for contributing to the organization and technological innovation in our classroom.”

Chromebook Cart Catastrophe No More!
Funded Mar 9, 2017Thank you so much for giving to my classroom. These 5 Chromebooks have been a boon to the students. Our sad situation has changed!
Before we had a Chromebook cart with gaping holes in it. There were missing machines because they were just overused. Keys were missing, screens were broken, and the charging ports useless. I asked for 5 new Chromebooks to replace the ones we had to throw away.
Now students are able to get a working Chromebook whenever they need to. We have 29 in total. Students can go online and research supplemental material to find evidence for a thesis. Also, they can use the many online Latin notes and vocabulary tools which we classicists are so lucky to have now.
Thank you again for giving to my class! These Chromebooks are so beneficial to the students' learning!”
