Drawing Materials for Visual Arts!
Funded Jan 30, 2015Thank you so much for your donation! We are in desperate need of professional drawing pencils and we are so lucky to have a replenished supply! Students are creating observational drawings looking at artifacts that connect to Islamic culture. They will turn these drawings into ceramic sculptures in a process that entails designing a rubber mold and casting sculptures using it! These sculptures will be displayed in a community arts exhibition at a gallery in downtown Brooklyn. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity!”

Terrariums in Sculpture Class!
Funded Dec 2, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donation. Because of your generosity, we were able to complete two different projects within the last month! Students created small sculptures that were used to hold plants. Terrarium making was a new experience for all of my students and they were so very excited to complete it! We were also able to order extra supplies which included wire and plaster. Students started a mask-making activity this Monday and have been researching folk art from Alaska, Mexico, Africa and Puerto Rico. Students will use the plaster and the wire to create their own masks this upcoming week! Thank you so much for helping my students have the professional materials they need and to boost student learning! You Rock!”

Funded Oct 22, 2014Our supplies came in this week and we are ready to sculpt! We have received box sets of plaster, colorful wires for armature and foam boards for carving and printmaking. Students are excited to work with materials they have never used before to create works of art for school exhibitions and college portfolios.
Students will use these resources in a project titled "Recreation from the Masters." Currently, they are working in groups to research famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh, Henri Matisse and Frida Kahlo for a poster presentation they will lead next week. As students teach each other about these master artists, they will look to their art as inspiration for a sculpture project. Students will turn famous two-dimensional works of art into 3-dimensional sculptures. Can you imagine Picasso's famous painting "Guernica" turned into a wire sculpture?
Thanks to you, students are able to research artists to improve their art history skills and put their knowledge into a creation. The quality of these supplies are superb and students are excited to use them. This donation has improved the quality of work and enthusiasm of students in my classroom and I thank you for giving us the opportunity to make awesome pieces of art!”
