  • Listen, Read, Learn!

    Funded Jul 22, 2010

I can't thank you enough for funding our project. The CD players are a wonderful addition to our media center! They are constantly checked out and going home with students. All of our wonderful students are benefiting from the CD players, but our English Language Learners are especially enthusiastic about them.

Over half our our student population speak Spanish as their first language and often there aren't any English speakers in their home to read in English to them. We all know how important hearing the spoken word is to learning a language. These CD players allow the students to take home books in English and listen to them being read.

We also have books in Spanish that can be checked out by Spanish and English speaking students. We have heard countless stories from the students about how much they love to listen to the audio books on the CD players.

We sincerely appreciate your part in funding our CD players. You have given all of our students a wonderful opportunity to read, learn and grow in their understanding of language and their appreciation of the written word,”

    With gratitude,

  • Books Grow Our Garden/Crecer Nuestro Jardín Con Libros

    Funded Jun 27, 2010

Thank you so much for supporting our "Books Grow Our Garden/Crecer Nuestro Jardin Con Libros" project. The funding you provided purchased several wonderful books about gardening and nature. These books have quickly been checked out and read by our wonderful students at VCE.

Several of our teachers have already said they will be using them in the spring when all our plant/gardening science units begin. We also have high hopes of starting a community garden at our school very soon. The resources you made possible will be indispensable for any type of gardening project.

Not only were the physical resources wonderful, but the kids also really enjoyed the idea that a stranger cared enough to provide them books for our library. When I showed them the books, they kept asking, "Who gave us those?" "Why did they give US such neat books?" I proudly told them there are great people in this world who care about them and want them to succeed even though they've never met them. Thank you so much for being those great people. Our students need to know people care about them.

Happy gardening! We promise we'll keep the books clean while we're getting our hands dirty in the garden!”

  • Podcasts For Writing Success!

    Funded Oct 29, 2008

Thank you, thank you, thank you for funding my project for a classroom set of computer microphones. These microphones will allow us to publish students' work as podcasts. This will be motivational for the kids and will also allow us to share their work (and words) with the world outside our school. Since your donation goes to items purchased through our media center, the microphones will be shared by the entire school. Every class in the school will have the opportunity to record their work. It was truly kind of you to donate to support this special project. Thanks for helping our kids to achieve!

    Gratefully,

  • Bumpin' Up and Down in My Little Red Wagon!

    Funded Oct 3, 2007

Thank you so much for funding my donorschoose grant! The little red wagon will let us cart books to the classrooms and serve as a nice display piece. We really appreciate your help in making our library a warm and welcoming place.

I am the school library media specialist to a school of 500 pre-k to 5th grade students. Our school is 95% minority and 80% of our kids receive English as a Second Language services. We also are a Title I school, since 99% of our kids qualify for free and reduced lunch. Our school's focus is balanced literacy instruction, and to make sure our kids can read and write (and also do math!) at grade level is extremely important to us.
