Our diverse group of students are in a multi-age classroom. They all have very diverse backgrounds and come from all over the world, through a variety of circumstances. Our school is an urban school, located about 25 minutes south of Seattle. We have about a 90% free and reduced lunch and currently serve over 300 ELL students. We have a high turnover rate due to having many families living in apartments. Our school struggles tremendously with state testing and therefore are in state sanctions. With the emphasis on increasing test scores, areas like science and engineering are treated as novelties rather than necessities. Students crave STEM experiences and cheer like it's their favorite sports team whenever they are given opportunities to explore engineering, computer programming, and science. They deserve more and we cannot offer it with our budget.
