Increasing Student Engagement with Senteo Clickers
Funded Oct 17, 2012Thank you very much for your generous donations. Without your support, my project would not have been fully-funded so quickly. I have done a few Donors Choose projects in the past but never one this big and I am incredibly grateful for all of your contributions.
The Senteo clickers are fantastic and I am so happy to have the opportunity to use them with my current class, as well as many classes to come. I am enjoying learning about the capabilities of the Smart Response system and I know I will be able to do so much more with the clickers with a little more practice. There is definitely a learning curve but I am getting better at creating and administering assessments using the software and the students are becoming more comfortable entering their answers using the clickers. I can create a variety of assessment questions: true/false, multiple choice, multi-answer, and even open response. My students love using the clickers and they actually get excited about taking tests when they involve the clickers. The instant data I get with the clickers is amazing. At a glance, I know who understands the material and who does not as well as how the class did as a whole on each question. It is so empowering to know right away whether or not my students have understood what I have taught. Because I can see exactly what answers each of the students plugged in, I can address their misconceptions. I cannot tell you what a powerful assessment tool this is! Thank you so much for bringing this amazing technology into my classroom.”

Engaging Readers through Book Clubs
Funded Mar 19, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations! The books you helped purchase arrived very quickly and we were able to start reading them right away! The students were so excited to see so many brand new books (70!) and they were overwhelmed by your generosity. Each student is now reading one of the following books: The Mouse and the Motorcycle, Magic Tree House Fact Tracker: The American Revolution, or Magic Tree House: Revolutionary War on Wednesday.
The students are taking really good care of the books and they have been very responsible about bringing them back and forth between school and home. They are also becoming more independent when they have their book club. They are working on helping each other to clarify words, asking comprehension questions, summarizing, and predicting. Having brand new books to read has really impacted my students' motivation and desire to be strong readers.
I am hoping that the students will get to read one more book from the wonderful selection we now have before the end of the school year. Also, because the students are taking such good care of the books, I know I'll be using them with future students for years to come.”
With gratitude,
