Reading and Writing within the Math Classroom
Funded Feb 9, 2022On behalf of me and my students, I would like to take the time to say thank you for your generosity and commitment to our school. We were given a year subscription to Scholastic News. Since receiving our magazines, we have been able to apply several math concepts to real world stories. We usually use one day a week to read an article. The students are very engaged and enjoy reading the stories. One in particular about purchasing sneakers, resulted in a very lively discussion! Many of my students do not have access to reading materials at home and the subscription allows them exposure to articles which interest them.
Thank you again for you generous donation.”

Basic Supplies to Start the Year Right!
Funded Oct 7, 2019I teach 7th grade math in an extremely urban area. We are limited in funding and, unfortunately, have few classroom supplies and materials. Your generous donation has improved the education for the students. They do not have to focus on how to pay for needed supplies. Because of your generosity, the students were able to have what they needed to help them have a successful year in 7th grade. Thank you so much for your support and for caring about my students. They deserve to be the best students they can be, and your donation has made this possible. Thank you again.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018My students and I thank you very much for your generosity. As a teacher in a low income/high poverty district, my students face challenges both in and out of the classroom. The books provided give each student a chance to enjoy and, hopefully, develop a love of reading. I try to provide my students with books which are grade level appropriate. They are especially interested because the book was written by the author while still in his teens. The plot contains both dragons and wizards, which holds the students' attention.
Without donors like you, many of my students would not have exposure to award winning books. It means so much to me and my students. Thank you again.”

Engaging All Students Through Visual Learning
Funded Mar 23, 2018Thank you for your generous donation to my project for supplies needed to engage my students through visual learning. The mobile magnetic dry erase board has been a big hit. Students love to use the board to show their answers to various problems. They are more confident in going to the board. In addition, the bulletin board provides a great resource to keep the students informed about various school activities and available resources. By your contribution, I am able to provide my students with other tools which strengthens their learning ability. Thanks again.”

Pump Up The Noise!
Funded Mar 23, 2018Thank you for your generous donation of headphones for my students My class is now able to both read the problems as well as listen to them. This is a tremendous value as many students learn through various methods.
Your funding of the project has helped to improve and increase student attention and focus. As many in my class come from bilingual households, it is often difficult to read the materials. There are diverse groups, i.e., English language learners, special education students and students different math skill levels who have benefited from the availability of headphones. ”

Organizational Items for Students
Funded Jan 19, 2018My students and I thank you very much for your generous donation to our project, Organizational Items for Students. Because of the new materials, the students are much more organized and, therefore, feel much more in control of their grade. Each student has a folder that they can look at to see their grades. In addition, several laminated pages have been added to their notebooks for studying and preparing for class.
When the students saw the organizational items, they were very excited, as many of them have their notes in several different notebooks and/or folders. They are happy to have all their documents in one place.
The students are currently creating doodle notes for combining like terms. Students fill in the sheets, answer the questions, and color, doodle or embellish. Then, they can use it as a study guide later on. When students color or doodle in math class, it activates both hemispheres of the brain at the same time. There are proven benefits of this cross-lateral brain activity:- new learning, relaxation (less math anxiety), visual connections, and better memory & retention of the content.
Because of your generous donation, you have given the students tools to help them succeed.”

Reinforce Students' Interaction and Creativity with Math Concepts
Funded Aug 26, 2017Thank you for your generosity in providing your donation for supplies for my students. As I work in a low poverty inner city school, it is often difficult for students to bring their own supplies. In addition, a very limited supply of items is given to the teachers. As a result, teachers spend their own money to make sure there are enough supplies for every child. Your contribution of basic essentials gives every student a chance to succeed. The students make study cards with the index cards. They take notes and place foldables in there notebooks. When we do a project, their work is displayed on the bulletin board outside the classroom, which gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment. We thank you for making this possible.”

Desktop Privacy Dividers
Funded Mar 29, 2017Thank you for your generosity in providing my students with privacy dividers and a pencil sharpener. The dividers are perfect for keeping the students focused when doing individual work.
When I first showed the students the dividers, they weren't sue if they liked them. Once I explained that the purpose of the dividers was to give each student some privacy. Once we started using the dividers, the liked not being disturbed by the behavior of other students.
It is much easier to give tests to the students. As the classes are large in size, it gives the students a space of their own and helps them stay focused.
It is because of this generosity that my students will be given an opportunity to succeed. Thank you again.”

Ms. Wilson
