I teach extended day Kindergarten in a large city. I have 25 students and more than eighty percent of my school receives free lunch. In my classroom alone I have six different home languages. I am challenged with many hard situations that my students face daily. I find that most have no use of books outside the classroom. I need to find creative ways to have them interested in books, I can do this by using props to retell books. I use my centers as a way so that I can do small groups and differentiate my instruction for all of my students. I would use the material I am requesting to create a reading area. One of my groups would go there to read or act out an extension to a story we had been working on. I have multiple numbers of refugee students that need a great deal of language. I find that using centers and small groups keeps my little students moving so they learn more. I would really like these items so that my students have a richer environment to learn in that is also developmentally appropriate for their age.
