My students learn best through using all of their senses - which is why hands on learning is so important for them. It's engaging, kinesthetic and prompts extension of the curriculum. The engaging resources I have requested will support my students' learning in a variety of areas to include language arts, math and writing. Many of my students arrive in my classroom with limited knowledge of letter names and sounds. Basic phonological awareness skills are delayed. I have requested a variety of resources that will help my students build a strong reading foundation needed for kindergarten. There are sight word and reading activities among the resources I have requested. Tactile upper and lowercase alphabet cards will help my students explore the alphabet using their sense of touch. Mathematics is an area that is often difficult for students with academic and intellectual delays. I have asked for resources that will give my students hands on activities that will help improve their basic counting, cardinality and algebraic (adding and subtracting) skills. Lastly, I have included some LCD writing tablets that will allow my students to practice number and letter writing. The tablets will also give my students the ability to explore their creative side when drawing. I am hopeful the donors will consider the resources I have requested. I remain dedicated to helping my special education students achieve and succeed to the best of their ability. Thank you for your consideration.
