  • Allies for Anatomy

    Funded Sep 13, 2013

Thank you so much for your donation. We received owl pellets and fetal pigs to use in my classroom. I was able to incorporate them into units on the skeletal system, digestive system, muscular system, and circulatory system.

With your donations, students were able to gain hands-on experience in the science classroom. Working in a low income school and with recent budget cuts, I would not have been able to provide my students with these experiences without your help.

I had students who really found they liked doing this hands-on work and are looking into health careers because of things we did in the classroom. I am so grateful for donors like you that allow me to expose them to these experiences.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. McLaughlin

  • Tipping the Scales

    Funded Oct 8, 2013

Thank you so much for your donations. It is so heartwarming that there are people out there who are willing to help the future generation in their academics. With these donations, my students will be able to perform experiments and learn important science content. These experiences allows students to get a taste of medical work early on in life in order to see if this is something they might want to pursue in the future. It is so encouraging to see how many people are willing to help students succeed and I am so thankful.”

  • Allies for Anatomy

    Funded Jan 23, 2013

I'm so appreciative of your generous donation to my classroom. The fetal pigs have been a large part of the classroom and classroom culture this school year. We have used them to learn about both the muscular and digestive systems. Students have taken an interest in the unit especially students who are focused on a career in health care. Your donations have allowed for students to access the material in a more kinesthetic learning style than the traditional text books.

Our district is currently in a budget shortage and without your help, my students would have never been able to access these resources. Many of the students are learning some critical material and techniques that will help them be successful in the future.

With donors like you, I'm able to give my students access to their future careers and interests.”

  • Taking the Bullied to the Bully Project

    Funded Apr 19, 2012

So how did the students react to 'Bully'? Overwhelmingly, with compassion for the students in the film, outrage for the way they were treated, and a passionate desire to do something to help make a difference. And I'll tell you, I have no doubt that they will!

Thank you for providing the funding to see Bully. This is an opportunity the students would not have been able to experience with out donors like you. The entire school was able to go to the theater and there was a lot of bonding and community built today. ”

  • Xenopus Life Cycle

    Funded Dec 28, 2011

I'm so appreciative of your generous donation to my classroom. The X. laevis frogs have been a large part of the classroom and classroom culture this school year. We have done some water testing and we are currently in the process of reproducing the frogs. The students have really taken an interest in this unit because of the living organisms in the classroom. Your donations have allowed for students to access the reproductive material in a more kinesthetic learning style than the traditional text books. We will continue with the reproductive system during the last half of the course and I will be able to use the frogs in future years with students.

Our district is currently in a budget shortage and without your help, my students would have never been able to access these resources. Many of my students want to go into health care professions and through the reproduction of the frogs, the students are learning some critical material and techniques that will help them be successful in the future.

With donors like you, I'm able to give my students access to their future careers and interests.

  • Allies for Anatomy

    Funded Dec 21, 2011

I'm so appreciative of your generous donation to my classroom. The fetal pigs and the dissection guide book that you donated have been used a considerable amount by my students the past couple of months. We have studied the digestive system and muscle system in the fetal pigs. We will continue to use your donations to study the cardiovascular, respiratory, circular, and reproductive organ systems throughout the year. The ability to study the organ systems in an organism has positivity affected my students learning and engagement.

Our district is currently in a budget shortage and without your help, my students would never have been able to access these resources. Many of my students want to go into health care professions and through the dissection of the fetal pigs, the students are learning some critical material and techniques that will help them be successful in the future.

Our students all share one thing: they were bullied for being different. Around half of the school identifies as LGBTQ and the rest of them were bullied for being over weight, being the wrong religion, being too skinny, too goth, or anything else. Here students are accepted for who they are and they are allowed to express themselves how they choose. If they want to wear a dress and heals today and baggy shorts and a t-shirt tomorrow they can. Because students are able to express themselves and feel belonging, students are able to learn and succeed in the classroom. A lot of work is done with students on creating a strong school culture that includes a no bullying policy. Restorative justice circles and methods for dealing with conflict are taught and used throughout the day to give students tools to create a culture where they will be successful. Everyone works hard to create a culture where students respect each other and their beliefs.
