A light table is one of the most engaging ways to get children interested in colors, shapes, and other early math skills. Since many of my students are highly impacted by developmental delays, it can be challenging to keep them engaged in activities for long periods of time. In my experience, light tables tend to be one of the highest interest activities for preschoolers. This would provide a unique and invaluable opportunity to build my students' skills and knowledge in ways that my current resources wouldn't provide. More specifically, this would be a highly motivating activity for all of my students, regardless of their level of need. My 5 year old students would have the opportunity to learn attributes of shapes, spatial relationships, and practice a variety of open-ended early geometry skills. At the same time, it would reinforce my 3 year olds understanding of colors and basic shapes. Collectively, it would create ample opportunities to organically practice social skills. Many of my students have individual social goals such as: turn taking, parallel play, sustaining joint attention with others, and following 1 step directions. A light table would facilitate countless activities for all of my students, based on their individual needs.
