Students will self-select book clubs to read various thematically related books. To become a better reader, students simply need to read more. Reading a class novel does not always create the necessary engagement to increase reading capabilities, so having multiple books at varying levels for students to choose can increase engagement. This project will give students choice in their learning at or near their individual levels. The novels are related to the topic of war and experience in war, so students can see various points of view to better understand the topic. Because students are in book clubs, not only will they be increasing their reading skills, but they will also increase their discussion skills. They will learn to closely read in order to hold a discussion with their peers. They will share ideas and determine thematic relationships between multiple sources.
