My students go to middle school. We are comprised of students with varying backgrounds. We have approximately 600 students with an average class size of 25. Due to a change in the economic structure of Hancock County, many famililies have been forced to relocate to find employment. For this reason, our current work force has changed to service rather than production based. The unemployment rate has risen. While the majority of our residents are senior citizens, many of our remaining younger families are single parent households who's economic structure is such that they qualify for assistance with free/reduced meals. Due to these changes, the school must continually adjust the curriculum to meet the academic and social needs of the students. I teach 5th grade ELA. I have approximately 75 students in 3 rotations. My students would benefit greatly by having good literature at their fingertips and adequate supplies.
