  • Our Little Greenhouse Effect

    Funded Oct 21, 2023

The greenhouse has made a tremendous impact in the inquiry area for students in the garden club. For most part students selected a type of seed to grow in the green house to later transplant in our edible garden. Students then select a country where meals are created with such vegetable, spices, fruits or herbs and write about it to share with the club in a small presentation at the end of each semester. What I enjoy the most is listening to the students conversating about some of the harvest used at home to prep for meal.”

  • Calming Area

    Funded Jan 5, 2023

The calming area has made a great impact on my students. I started to use the an area as a preferred time activity for 7 minutes for a few students who needed a reward for staying and completing a task. This has increased in productivity for all other students who would like to use the calming area and be part of group. Thanks again for creating an environment where students can relax and calm down after completing their work. The area is also used for student who show anxiety and need to take a break. Most of my student are within the autism spectrum and required a preferred activity break from work.”

  • Think Like an Engineer

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

My class had the opportunity to learn the engineering design process and how to work as a team. The new robot was the perfect building experience for the class to practice the components of the engineering design. Our first step was to brainstorm the type of robot to be built. Then to find the selection and to iterate the plan to later test the prototype. The students were filled with enthusiasm as i mentioned to them i had robots to be ensemble. The ensemble took us two weeks to complete. finally, each student had the chance to present their final prototype to each other.”

  • From Asphalt Jungle to Green Garden

    Funded Oct 15, 2021

Thank you for your support, Our garden is starting to flourish with the beginning of Spring and so are our students.

We started to plan what vegetables and fruits would grow before the school was out in June. We started to do a green house for our seedling in the classroom and called the project " From Seed to the Table " which encourage students to have a healthy life style by eating fresh fruits and vegetables. Our students now have a weekly schedule to maintain the garden and they are very enthusiastic about what lessons are coming up . Next steps to take is to maintain the garden; within three months harvest the produce and prepare a healthy meal for our students to promote a healthy life style.”

At the start of the project, i listened comments like " teacher I can draw or paint." And " I am not an artist." My job was to Insist and give positive feedback and praise all students. With the use of the art supplies , I was able to create an art project based on a pre-Hispanic legend of the sun and the moon.Within days, Students were very proud of their artistic talents for been the first time using paint, brush and a canvas. This art project has brought a sense of worthiness and self confidence for my students by creating art.”
