Taking Science To a New Art Level
Funded Jul 12, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom . It has had such a great impact on our learning. The students have been able to work on science projects that have greater depth and meaning. We used the clay to create ecosystems that assessed our comprehension of learning. We have had ongoing use of the paints and colored pencils in other projects that make our learning more meaningful. The students have created their own posters to reference when they need to be reminded of former lessons. It was so nice to have the materials needed to make learning creative and fun. Thanks again!”

O'oh Kids Just Wanna Have Fu'un!
Funded Sep 18, 2011Wow! We are having so much fun playing at recess. My students are so excited they would much rather play together than just socialize with friends. They are getting so much exercise and coming up with new games of their own. I have been able to use playtime as an incentive for good behavior without the risk of confrontations from other students or classes. You have been such a blessing to my students and myself.
I know the boys favorite activity is flag football! They ask to play it everyday and I don't have to worry about tackling taking place "accidentally". The girls enjoy the jump ropes and batmitten the most. As a class we play soccer together and couldn't do it without our cones for goals. When it rains I use the bean bags for indoor games. We also use them for hopscotch. Thanks again for making our days oh so fun!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Nickelodeon and one other donor.Listen, Learn, and Love Literature
Funded Mar 15, 2011Through the generous donations you have made my classroom has been greatly impacted. We are enjoying the benefits of the materials given. My students have never been so excited about reading before!
We set up a check out system to use the technology and books. As soon as the materials come in they are begging to check them out again. My students have been able to discuss age appropriate books where before they were too difficult. One student who has already taken his end of the year standardized test passed the reading portion and he has never passed his reading test before!
Thank you so very much for giving these students and students in years to come the resources to help accomplish their reading goals.”

Once Upon A Time...Get Hooked!
Funded Feb 16, 2010My classroom is a reading fairy tale frenzy thanks to you! My desire to influence my students with fairy tales has been successful. They were very excited to hear the different versions of old favorites and were able to read new favorites for themselves. The students that I teach have very limited interaction with books before they come to school and some of the stories that you or I may have heard as a child are unfamiliar to my students. They particularly enjoyed the "I Read To You, You Read To Me" fairy tale book.
With the class set of Sister's Grimm books I was able to expose all students to the wonderful vocabulary in the story at the same time. We were able to examine the author's choice of words and author's craft. Some of my students were so into the story that they couldn't wait to read every day and chose to finish the book early on their own. One student even finished the whole series by "consuming" a book about every two days. Needless to say, the other books in the series that I didn't have and you provided for me, were very beneficial.
Thank you again for your very generous donation and please note the smiles on my students faces in our pictures!”

And Now For the Weather...
Funded Oct 22, 2009What an amazing unit we are having on weather! Thanks to your generosity our study on the weather and factors that constitute weather trends, has become an amazing hands-on experience for my students. You know when your study is having an impact when you hear things like, "Wow, now I understand!" and "This weekend I was able to explain to my mom what the weather man meant." Music to a teachers ears!
The activities in the Weather Projects book have taken the students learning to a higher level. By using the experiments, the students understanding was taken from Thier level and developed at a pace that made learning a most positive experience. We were able to track the last hurricane of the season with the hurricane tracker chart. Putting the instruments in my students hands has given them an understanding of weather that is invaluable. We are taking our time and savoring every lesson so we will continue using the instruments and activities throughout the rest of the year. Other classes have also been able to use the tools and the outside weather station. They really enjoy measuring the wind speed.
The students are keeping weather journals based on data taken from the weather station. We are using that data to make graphs so we can see the changes and trends in the weather. The students are beginning to make predictions based on this data. Thank you for allowing me to develop a classroom of young meteorologists!”

Science Fun In a Box
Funded Sep 18, 2007I cannot tell you how excited my students are going to be! They ask every day,"When can we do science today?"
