My students are not much interested in reading longer, deeper, texts. I feel books like The Hunger Games Trilogy can make them excited about reading because they've probably seen the movie with their families and will have a baseline understanding of the story before they start, which makes it less intimidating. They'll also be pleasantly surprised by all the information that the movies left out. This will make for interesting discussions that can engage the whole class and get other students interested in reading the books next. I envision students sharing what they read with the class and one another.
