Thank you all for helping complete this project. My scholars love having healthy snacks available to them throughout the day. The snacks help my scholars stay focused, be engaged and have mental stamina to learn two languages (Spanish and English).
We also use the snacks to have classroom discussions about healthy eating. The snacks help our social emotional needs in helping my class not feel hangry. The snacks put huge smiles on the faces of my students. Thank you for your support.”
Thank you for making this project come to life. I have been able to use the materials in a variety of ways. The most popular item has to be the automatic pencil sharpener. We use this sharpener strictly for color pencils. Students enjoy watching the pencils go down and up. No more having to figure out how to sharpen pencils or getting our other pencil sharpener dull from the wax of the color pencils.
Pencils, pencils and more pencils. We have gone through a ton of pencils this school year. Thank you for replenishing the pencils. All of the items have been a huge boost for my scholars. Thank you again for completing this project.”

Thank you so much for completing this project and providing my scholars and scholars in another classroom books about animals in spanish. The resources have been invaluable to the learning of my students. They have a variety of high quality books in spanish that allow them to grow their reading and research skills.
The books have been helpful in many ways. We are using the books to create our own books in spanish. Students have completed 4 out of their 6 chapters to date. They will work on their animals Life Cycle and Challenges their animal is facing to survive.
When I opened the box of books, I wish I could record and share their excitement for having new books. Especially the hard to find books in spanish. You have helped me be a better teacher but also made a positive impact for my scholars.”

Thank you for providing my scholars with healthy snacks. Snacks are a crucial benefit for learning this school year. I have students that arrive late and miss out on breakfast and I can provide them a snack to hold them over until lunch. Students have 4 and a half hours without food from when they arrive to class until lunch. It may not seem like much time but with growing bodies the snacks provides them with a quick energy charge to continue the long school day. My scholars also know that if they arrive late they can still get a snack in the classroom for lunch.
By sharing this project with families, we have had more families donate snacks this school year. This project has started a positive snack movement in my classroom for my scholars.
When I opened up the snacks for students, they were ecstatic!!! It kind of felt like christmas morning. Except they were mentioning which snacks were their favorite. Thank you for helping my students feel safe and comfortable at school. Snacks help give them energy to focus and be their best self's.”

My class has thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to send postcards around the world. Each student has written at least one and many others have written many more postcards. Students had to create a drawing that sent a positive message to a random individual/family around the world. They also provided an uplifting quote on the postcard as well. This activity has helped my Dual Language students practice their spanish writing skills. Once our postcards arrived at their destination, we would then receive a postcard from someone else randomly. It's like receiving a little present in our mailbox. It can be written in English or Spanish.
We have a map outside of our classroom that is growing with postcards. This school year we have sent 36 postcards and have received 34. This project allows us to visit parts of the world we would have never been too or talked about. Our latest postcard came from Belarus. I try to find short videos to share with our class about the city our postcards came from.
At the end of the school year students will be able to take home 2-3 postcards that we received throughout the year. I wish you could see the class when I share with them that their postcard arrived at their destination. We will also use our statistics (learning about averages) later on in the school year. Thanks for providing my class with a real world experience of sharing positive messages and postcards.”
Thank you so much for inspiring my students to show off their artistic skills. The excitement in their eyes when they see their button completed is a great feeling to experience. The buttons encouraged our class to focus on our Promesa (Classroom Charter). We made buttons around words we as a class want to feel this school year. Those words are joyful, accepted, calm, safe, proud and honest. Being able to have student created buttons be seen and worn throughout the year was a great reminder and helped us live our Promesa.
The buttons were also a hit at our annual La Kermes (Multicultural Night) Family Festival. I stationed a booth that has students either create their own buttons or color in a premade picture of our school mascot, La Kermes or cartoon figure. Families began drawing their countries flags, clothing and food items. We were busy the whole night. Students and families from Kindergarten to 5th grade were able to create a keepsake of La Kermes. This was all possible by your gracious donations. Thanks”

Thank you for providing my class with books about inventors and scientest in spanish and english. My scholars were excited to get books instead of searching for information in our virtual library. There truly is something special about holding a book, feeling the pages and smelling that new book smell. These books aren't just going to help us this year but for many more years to come. The books provided some new information they havent been able to find online. It also supported their spanish reading development. Thank you for sharing the love of reading with my class.”

Thank you so much for your gracious donations for the button maker and buttons. This project has been a huge inspiration for my scholars. We recently added a new word to our "Promesa" (Classroom Charter). In the pictures provided some students were able to choose a feeling word from our "Promesa" and created a button. The buttons help others around our school know that we want to feel a certain way at our school.
The buttons have helped build our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills and strategies.
Students are creating buttons that make them feel a part of our school community. One student even asked to use the Incredible Hulk as part of his button because he mentioned feeling angry but then changing those feelings into something positive. I remind him of the Hulk when he begins being upset.
I have also added Button making to our prize wheel. Students create a button that they create with their own art skills and creativity. Thanks again for helping us work on SEL and art in our classroom with the Button Maker!!!”

Thank you for providing a variety of new books in English and Spanish for my classroom. These books instantly became my students favorites. I have seen them be more engaged in reading during class. They were super excited to get new books for our Animal Adaptations unit in Spanish. In previous years, students had a limited number of animals to choose from because of the limited resources we had. This will be the first year a student will research about Pandas.
When we researched different countries, your books provided students with hands on materials instead of just reading from their Chromebook screen. More and more students are asking if they can take the new books home. This project has helped create a love for reading. Thanks again for your support.”

My class consists of 27 English Language Learners. They include refugees and immigrants from all parts of the world, such as Somalia, Tonga, Iraq, Mexico, Honduras, and El Salvador. We have seven different languages spoken in the room. They all work tirelessly to strengthen their English skills and make adequate yearly progress. The school is located in a high poverty area south of Seattle. All of the students in my class qualify for free and reduced lunch.
