  • Literacy and Just Books for All

    Funded Mar 17, 2017

Thank you so much! My students will be very excited to read these books. We just read "Hatchet" by Gary Paulsen together as a class. Having a book for every child is so beneficial to deepen their experiences. All of these new books will add to our learning.

"Holes" by Louis Sachar is a particular favorite. It blends parallel narratives and incorporates realism and fantasy, providing for rich discussions and inspired writing.

Thanks again for contributing to our classroom community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S.

  • Systems for Storage Sanity

    Funded Mar 9, 2016

Thank you for funding our seat backpack request. Your donation will serve 40 fourth and fifth graders this school year, plus many more in the years to come, who will now be more organized and prepared to tackle new academic challenges each day.

Because our elementary students are studying for half their day in an immersion language, their learning environment can be challenging. Through your generous support, we can clear their desks of clutter and distractions, allowing for focused studying and thoughtful discussions.

    Thank you again.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S.

  • Storage Technology Systems for Sanity

    Funded Dec 19, 2014

Thank you so much for your donations. Here are a few thoughts from some of my colleagues who also received the seat packs.

-The seat packs have brought organization and peace to our classroom. Once cluttered desks are now able to be cleared and students have a proper workspace.

-Thank you generous donors. Our school is housed temporarily in a building that was not meant to be an elementary school, and furnished with a random mix of tables, chairs and shelving. The seat backpacks will pull together the visual environment of the classroom and create a less chaotic feeling.

Thank you again for facilitating our students' learning.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S.

  • Big Kids Need Fun Books Too!

    Funded Apr 2, 2014

Thank you so much! My students will be so excited to read these books. We just read "I Broke My Trunk" by Mo Willems last week (for the second time) and the kids were just as excited as the first time we read it.

That book is a perfect to tool to use for narrative writing. It slowly builds the story bit by bit by bit, each time with suspense and humor. Finally, the big reveal at the end (I won't spoil it for you) always produces smiles, if not outright laughter.

Thanks again for all of these fantastic teaching tools.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. S.

My students, like all 4th grade students, I think, love stories. We get lost in classroom books by Louis Sachar, Gary Paulsen, and Sharon Creech. We study westward expansion in social studies through a curriculum called "Storypath," which involves lots of role playing. We also write, act, edit, and produce a movie from an original student-authored myth inspired by Ancient Greek Mythology. I have found that stories engage my students like no other teaching technique. Mo Willems' books are brief, poignant, engaging, and hilarious ways to teach a wide variety of lessons, including social skills, writing, reading, math, and behavioral concepts.
