Our Southern California school houses approximately 700 children of lower-middle income. Most of the students partake of the free or reduced cost lunch program. Some of them have computer access at home, and others must visit the local library to access the Internet. My fifth grade class contains 33 gifted boys and girls, the majority of whom display exemplary citizenship and dedicated efforts in their studies. Because our school is designated as "Program Improvement", we spend the majority of our day studying language arts and mathematics. Supplemental instruction in the language arts is sorely needed in order to create a balanced academic program.
