The Power of Positive Affirmations
Funded Jul 20, 2022Thank you so much for your generosity. The pandemic has been very challenging for students and their social-emotional skills. I am excited to create this special space in our classroom just for them. Thank you for putting these kiddos first and helping to bring positivity to their challenging days!”

2nd Grade is Going Green!
Funded Nov 3, 2014Thank you so much for helping us fund this project! My second grade students were ecstatic to receive the materials and couldn't wait to get started! We used the new resources to supplement our science curriculum and were able to dive into the topic of solar energy.
These materials allowed my students to design a business plan centered around a solar oven recipe. As a group, they came up with their recipe, ingredients, slogan and a commercial. They spent three weeks working on their project and presented it in front our our 5th grade buddy class and parents. These materials helped my students feel empowered and showed them that small ideas can eventually become something.
Next steps for my classroom include purchasing a class-set of novels discussing students who have created a business plan and are developing their business idea. I think these novels would serve and great mentor texts to enhance this unit and fuse the science, reading and math standards together.”

Class Library: Mentor Texts
Funded Jul 29, 2014I cannot thank you enough for your donation! It has helped us improve our classroom library and and make my students much more motivated readers! My students were thrilled when they were able to open the boxes and see over 70 new books! They could not believe that strangers could be so generous. Character strength that we focus on and build our skills in, is gratitude. This process has been a perfect example of the importance of gratitude. It is so exciting for my kids to not only learn life skills, but to improve their love of reading while doing so.
The texts you so generously donated towards are used daily. I use each book as a mentor text while focusing on a specific skill. The text is then displayed above the bookshelf and they kids are able to access it whenever they need it. Some kids like to write stories that parallel the read aloud, while others use the book to look up specific vocabulary they want to use in their writing. These books help my students become more independent and it is very exciting to watch!
This project has boosted my teaching because it has allowed me to teach specific skills while reading an incredibly rich text. In the past, I always used the same book to teach the same skill. I believe my teaching was beginning to become stale. Now, with more variety, I am able to connect with students through literature and in turn, improve their comprehension of the text and understanding of the skill. My students who were previously not used to seeing people who look like them in picture books, are now motivated to read and deeply involved in discussions revolved around these texts.
Thank you again from the bottom of my heat. Your donations mean more to my students and myself than I will ever be able to truly express.”
