Our Panthers Need a Zen Den
Funded Sep 29, 2024First and foremost, let me thank you very much again for your generous contribution to our classroom community. When they first arrived, my students were SHOCKED!! They are VERY comfortable and all of my students rotate using them when our class lesson allows.
When my students are journaling or doing group work, they sit on them and collaborate. My students absolutely love the "Zen Den" and ask to leave the cafeteria during lunch to be able to relax and unwind in the bean bag chairs. I find it a great spot for me to have conversations with students that are struggling academically or dealing with the pressures of being a high school student. During our Student Government meetings, students use them to help create a calm vibe.
We hope this continues to build the safe and productive classroom environment we strive to create here and I am truly so grateful.”

Funded May 17, 2015Thank you so so much for contributing to our classroom project. We cannot wait to use our year-long Science World Magazine subscription to enhance our passion and love for science through reading. We are already preparing for our first current event article sharing based on the first subscription that arrived at the beginning of the month. We hope the photos put a smile on your face and help you to realize just how grateful we are for these resources. My students are going to be using these magazines to help improve their reading comprehension and create connections between our science content and the world around them. All of my students get so excited to read through each issue and my favorite moments are when they say comments such as: "Mrs. Young, did your read this article? This is so awesome!" Knowing that my students are motivated to read and learn only shows the potential growth that these magazines can bring. Thank you again so very much! We truly are so excited to have a year filled with engaging science reading and learning!!

Sensational Science in Seconds!
Funded Nov 13, 2014Thank you all SO much again for your generosity and for helping my students and I get a classroom laptop! It really was a beautiful start to this joyous holiday season and a reminder of all of the positivity and kindness there is in the world.
We received the laptop before Thanksgiving recess and have been using the AMAZING new computer to research and develop our current classroom projects. My 8th graders are using the laptop to type up and create their Straw Rocket Exit Projects and my 6th graders are using the laptop to work on their Ancient Egypt Simple Machine Reports. They can't stop saying "WOW" "Awesome" "I love this new computer," and it is very clear how grateful and excited they are.
My students now have instant access to a laptop with Internet connection at any time they need or want! Many of my students have asked to come on their lunch or after school to use the laptop to research topics for our monthly current events and to work on projects for all of their classes. These types of requests and watching the motivation of my student learners increase ten-fold truly warms my heart. You all have contributed to the education of countless students that will walk in and out of my classroom doors.
Please know that we all thank you from the bottom of our science-loving hearts and cannot wait to share pictures with you of laptop work in action!
I think we often forgot how far gestures of kindness and selfless giving can go and how much of a difference just one person can make.
On behalf of all of the students at our school... THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!”

Extra Extra... Let's Read All About Science!
Funded Aug 18, 2014Thank you so much for all of your help and support in getting our Science World Magazine Subscription! My students are absolutely thrilled that they now have access to current and engaging science articles to help them on their quest to becoming successful readers. With the first month of school coming to a close we are starting to really get use out of the magazines. The titles and covers instantly hook them which can be hard after a full 6-hour day of classroom learning. We plan to continue reading them on a group and individual basis and we have used these as a starting point for a year-long "Current Event Series." My students will be selecting and writing a new current event summary each month to go into a big portfolio that they will be able to keep until June. It will be invaluable to their growth as learners and can help them develop both their reading comprehension and writing skills. I just cannot thank you enough, and I hope when you the pictures of them in action reading and enjoy Science World, it warms your heart and makes you smile.
Thank you, thank you and thank you !! A million times over!! My students and I are truly so grateful!”

They've Got Their "i" 's on an iPad
Funded Jan 25, 2013On behalf of my eighth grade students, I would like to thank you for the incredibly generous gift you donated to our classroom! Helping support our iPad project has allowed us to get our hands on an invaluable classroom resource. The iPad has granted us a way to delve into science in an interactive and engaging way. As a team, my students' and I have researched and downloaded several applications for the iPad that directly connect to our science content. For example, we have been using the Moon App to track the daily moon phases and track incredibly interesting information about our solar system. The iPad allows us quick access to video clips and virtual animal dissections. As we enter our human body system unit, we are all thrilled and anxious to utilize all of the applications that give "inside looks" into all of the body systems and help us see what the systems look like in other organisms. Additionally, we are loving the ability to have a quick and clear video recorder to capture our group presentations.
My eighth grade honors class is so excited for their presentations on Mitosis and the Cell Cycle to be recorded and then shared via e-mail with their families and friends.
Above all, the iPad you have all helped provide my students with has enabled them to more easily and deeply understand science. Also, this interactive resource helps my English language learners grasp the complex content with Spanish versions of videos and additional assistance and translations into their native language. . With the aid of visuals and hands-on experiences, my students have so much more confidence in their ability to learn science. With these materials, my students have experienced a feeling of success in school and a sense of ownership over their own learning opportunities.
Once again, my 150 eighth grade students and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts and want you to know that we appreciate the selfless act you made to help make education an exciting and engaging experience for all!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Young
