For students that have disabilities, life after graduation can be overwhelming. The students that I teach throughout the day all struggle with post graduation opportunities. I teach science and functional skills in a practical way so that my students can understand the material that is most applicable to their future. My students learn how to take care of needs such as cooking, cleaning, money management, and soft job skills. In science we focus on learning science concepts that apply to a future job. Having a practical and functional education is important so that my students are prepared for the real world. My students attend a public school, and I teach grades ranging from 9th through 12th. The ability to become self sufficient as a child with a disability cannot be over stated. As those students grow and mature that skill will be needed as they eventually enter the workforce and take care of themselves.
