  • No Gym No Problem

    Funded Dec 22, 2013

The students were so excited to receive new equipment and storage containers. They could not believe that people donated the money to fund it. They could not wait to use it. A lot of students volunteered to help clean out the closet so we could organize the pop up bins.

They love the basketballs. They said "finally a ball with grip on it!". The sixth grade uses the beach balls for the beginning of volleyball. Our morning students use the handballs for European handball. They finally have a sense of pride in their equipment and treat it with care.

Students are excited to come down to the gym and use new equipment. It makes them want to learn new skills. The more equipment we have the more students can be actively engaged at one time. Physical education stimulates them in a way that the class room can not.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Semey

  • Technology in the Gym

    Funded May 8, 2013

The students and myself are so thankful for the printer. They were so excited to receive any form of technology especially in the gym. They did not think that anyone cared about physical education since all of the focus is usually on math and ELA.

The printer allows me to send notices home and photocopy student work to use as examples. The students who have no printer at home are able to utilize for their written assignments, where they just bring in their flashdrive and print it out from my office.

I am able to print out their fitnessgram information right there if they have any questions or just want a copy for themself. This was never a possibility, it is new and exciting and just the start of many things to come. Thank you so much for changing the dynamic of my class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Semey

My students are in a Title I middle school, and are often here from 6:30 in the morning until 8:00 at night for morning and after school programs. It is the teachers they see most of the time, and not their parents. Most of them come from low income families and the school itself does not have money for various activities and supplies. It is hard to educate and excite students without the proper equipment. Not to mention technology is taking over and there is a lack of it in the building where I work. Whatever money the school has in the budget is allocated to math and ELA and physical education is a forgotten subject. Safety of the students is most important along with classroom management. At times there are over 150 students in the gym at one time. Keeping them organized and engaged is a daily struggle.
