  • Round Out Our Ukulele Classroom Set

    Funded Feb 23, 2019

Let me tell you! My students were very touched and humbled by the generous donations that made it possible for us to make music at the same time. You would be surprised what your gesture means to us--we can all make music together, which hasn't been possible until now. Yes, we can play with a partner, but it is so much more fun to play instruments at the same time.

Despite the lack of instruments (until now), we have a thriving ukulele program in our school. The students LOVE ukulele! We have a music club that meets after school, and this year (on Friday afternoons), I had over 30 kids show up every time! We played ukulele, buckets for drumming and sang songs. They loved the ukulele the most!

With your donation, we will continue the business of making music. We will remember your donations with much gratitude! Thank you for believeing in my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

  • iPads in the Music Classroom

    Funded Mar 15, 2016

    Dear Donors Choose Friend:

Thank you so very much for the iPads, headphone splitters, cases and charger! They have been so very helpful in my classroom for the last few months! We truly appreciate your generosity and caring for us. We couldn't have the fun things in our classroom without you.

Technology is something that we don't have enough of at our school. With Apple having so many wonderful music applications, these iPads and their accessories will help us in many ways. We are able to compose music with Garage Band. We can learn our notes with Flashnote Derby. We can connect to the world around us with the Internet. We can explore musical genres and composers. The list goes on and on. This was not possible before your generous donation.

Thank you so much! You have a special place in our hearts and on our minds. Thanks for supporting music education!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

  • Folk Tales and Movement

    Funded Dec 21, 2015

Thank you for the deep impact your donations have made to my classroom. We received them January 4th.

By the end of this first week back to school, my students are asking me to see more of the songtale books. These books help the students to visualize folk songs we have been using in the classroom since the first day of school this year. They are able to imagine the story that goes with each song, and they are also given new perspectives and insights into what the song is about.

The added benefit of the document camera has been a real life-saver in our classroom. Besides the books are being projected onto a large screen, my older students are getting to see their classwork and songs projected large enough for the whole group to see it at once. This helps my recorder players and my ukulele players a great deal.

We look forward to using the parachute and stretchy band in our upcoming performance at school and beyond. There are so many neat ways we will use them in the coming months.

My students thank you SO much. They are touched by your donations, and I am humbled by your generosity. Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

  • Turn It Up To 11!

    Funded Oct 15, 2013

Thank you so much for the donation of the sound board to our classroom. It has enhanced our classroom greatly in the few months we have had it. I use it daily as the main sound source for my iPod, keyboard and computer. It has so much sound, I have had to turn the volumes down on the other sources! I never imagined I would have to do that! I have had many students remark that they were able to "hear the music so much better than before." They really appreciate your support of our school's music program.

The students are singing better because they can hear the music as it was intended to be heard. They can also hear the audio for my Power Points. The piano sounds great through the integrated speaker input. Our narrators used it to speak to our audience during a recent Halloween presentation.

I hope we are able to use this system for a long time to come. Thank you so much for helping my students with the gift of sound!”

  • Mallets Make the Difference

    Funded Dec 20, 2013

I want to take the time to say "Thank you" for the mallets for the students at my school. They have made a difference already in our daily music lessons, and the students are very interested in learning about how different mallets make sounds on the instruments.

Many of our older mallets are fraying or falling apart--especially the yarn and felt mallets. The rubber mallets are drying out due to age and wear and tear. There new mallets will re-energize our program and help the students play music better. Thank you for making a difference in the lives of my students! We will use them wisely and with deep gratitude to you!”

  • Small Percussion Makes A Big Difference!

    Funded Nov 13, 2013

I want to take this opportunity to thank you for donating to this project. The students were so touched by your donation. They are so happy that you are looking out for them and so appreciative of the gift of music. I am thankful for the additional resources to add more tones and players to our music class.

Our students started using the Sound Shapes this week, and they LOVE them! They add a different sound to our classroom music, and the students all want to play them (which they have done already!). They are a unique addition to our room. The students also got to experience the Rainforest Drums. We already had some smaller ones, so these new 10-inch drums fit well into our room. And, the mallets have helped more children to play along on the glockenspiels. Until this donation, we had to share the mallets, but now 2 more children can play along with the rest. Thank you!”

  • Ukuleles to Promote Music Learning

    Funded May 10, 2013

I wanted to take this opportunity to personally thank you for the wonderful gift of 30 ukuleles for our school. The students have known about these instruments coming since last year when the project was funded, and they have been buzzing about it since this school year began. Many of my students don't have the opportunity to learn string instruments, and because ukulele is becoming very popular as a music teaching tool in schools, I now have a great way to inspire and engage my students.

I am working on ukulele with the 5th grade students right now. In the last few weeks, we reviewed the staff (they played recorder in 3rd & 4th grade). On Friday, the learned how to hold it and to strum. They were SO excited to get their hands on the instruments! As they were walking out of school that day, several told me that "this was the BEST day in music so far!" WOW!

This year, we will learn about the Hawaiian culture and the versatility & portability of the ukulele. I hope it inspires them to continue their musical studies. The 6th grade students will also use the ukuleles, but further on in the year.

Our ultimate goal is to have a Hawaiian-themed concert on May 7th, 2014. If you live in the area, I am officially inviting you to attend our concert! We would like to thank you in person.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

  • Drum Circles to Foster Teamwork

    Funded Oct 17, 2012

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donations to "Drum Circles Foster Teamwork." Your donations have been a blessing to my classroom, and the impact on my students will be felt for years.

It would have taken me years to purchase these instruments on my own school's budget. I receive only $200 per school year to purchase student materials, and many times, instruments like the tubanos are NOT on my priority list. I am usually buying pencils, folders, new teacher resources and the occasional fun (and small) instrument to add to the classroom.

With this donation, my students will get to experience drum circles and the positive impact they can have on their lives. Drum circles are for students of all ages and abilities. Even the smallest hand can make music with these tubanos. You are helping to create a positive and happy space where music rings from the rafters. Thank you!

When I told my students that my friends and family (and anonymous donors) had donated the money to purchase these new drums, their reaction was a very sincere and heart-felt "Thank you" from many of them. They know that other people care for them. It means the world to all of us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

  • Miss L's World Musicians

    Funded Oct 8, 2012

I wanted to take the opportunity to thank you for your generous donation to my students. The Native American gathering drum and the temple blocks will be used for many years to come in my classroom. It means a lot to me, personally, that you donated to my classroom. I am touched by your outpouring of support. I am blessed beyond words!

When I told my students that these drums were funded by my friends, family and anonymous contributors, they were genuinely touched. A few of them even said, "Please tell your donors 'Thank you' for us!" Because of your gift, my students know that people are looking out for them in the community and the world. It's amazing to me and to them! Thank you!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Loeffler

My students are curious about world music and cultures. I guess that comes from their equally curious music teacher - me! My students love music class and learning about different world cultures through music. Our Illinois school is Kindergarten through 6th grade, with almost 800 students. We are a low income district, with over 70% of our students on free or reduced lunch.
