My kindergarten students come from a small, rural area in South-Western Ohio. My students attend all day, every day kindergarten in the local public school. The parents in this community are incredibly loving toward their children and supportive of me as a teacher, but don't always know how best to prepare their children for the academic expectations of kindergarten. I have many students who come to school and don't understand how books 'work'. They don't have much experience with sitting on a parent's lap to hear a great story. They often haven't spent much time exploring books at the local library. I want to inspire and support them as they face the challenge of learning to read, so that they can enjoy reading for a lifetime!
