Our school is one of four middle schools in a large urban environment. We are privileged with a depth of diversity - socially, economically, religiously, and ethnically. Our school's driving philosophy centers on tolerance and acceptance, and this belief is reinforced through our studies in Language Arts to show what can happen when ideas and beliefs become actions. Students take Language Arts for 90 minutes a day; having such a large chunk of time together enables creative lessons and the ability to have much peer interaction. For the middle school child, the chance to be heard, and to hear their peers, is an important part of the maturation process, and our LA class tries to capitalize on this notion/practice as much as possible. Our students are encouraged to thrive not only academically but socially and emotionally as well, which is pertinent to the development of the middle school child.
